Beware: this is not a book by Sear himself. Composed of many different chapters written by different people, the book has the qualities and defects of such works. it gives an interesting and rich story of the British Empire. While some sections are of superior quality, and most are pleasing to listen to, in the end the dominant feeling is that most notably in the last chapters, the authors are openly nostalgic of the Empire, and of the Raj. At some point it becomes so blatant, complacent and unfounded, that it was a pain to finish...

A survey of the British Empire that covered the time and scope in a balanced manner. Rare these days.

This book flowed really well, despite the changes in geographic focus, and it provided a good depth of information while keeping the listener engaged. This book forms a solid background for further historical reading, or perhaps to understand the settings and bias presented through historical novels.

The narration was really very good.
