Conrad Black
À propos de cet audio
“The bell of opportunity tolls for us, and the world, for once, will listen. It is our turn,” writes Conrad Black in this scintillating blueprint for a bolder Canadian future.
Chipper, patient, and courteous, Canada has pursued an improbable destiny as a splendid nation of relatively good and ably self-governing people, but most would agree we have not realized our true potential.
Canada's main chance, writes Black, is now before it...and it is not in the usual realms of military or economic dominance. With the rest of the West engaged in a sterile left-right tug of war, Canada has the opportunity to lead the world to its next stage of development in the arts of government. By transforming itself into a controlled and sensible public policy laboratory, it can forge new solutions to the problems of welfare, education, health care, foreign policy, and other governmental sectors, and make an enormous contribution to the welfare of mankind.
Canada has no excuse not to lead in this field, argues Black, who offers 19 visionary policy proposals of his own. He claims that this "is the destiny, and the vocation, Canada could have, not in the next century, but in the next five years of imaginative government.”

The world is in flux. Disruptive technologies, ideas, and politicians are challenging business models, norms, and political conventions everywhere. How we, as leaders in business and politics, choose to respond matters greatly. Right Here, Right Now sets out a pragmatic, forward-looking vision for leaders in business and politics by analyzing how economic, social, and public policy trends - including globalized movements of capital, goods, and services, and labor - have affected our economies, communities, and governments.

Conrad Black, bestselling author of Franklin Delano Roosevelt: Champion of Freedom and Richard M. Nixon: A Life in Full, turns his attention to his "friend" President Donald J. Trump and provides the most intriguing and significant analysis yet of Trump's political rise. Ambitious in intellectual scope, contrarian in many of its opinions, and admirably concise, this is surely set to be one of the most provocative political books you are likely to listen to this year.

Histoire
The quest for social justice is a powerful crusade of our time, with an appeal to many different people, for many different reasons. But those who use the same words do not always present the same meanings. Clarifying those meanings is the first step toward finding out what we agree on and disagree on. From there, it is largely a question of what the facts are. Social Justice Fallacies reveals how many things that are thought to be true simply cannot stand up to documented facts, which are often the opposite of what is widely believed.

Hardship is now equated with victimhood. Outward displays of vulnerability in defeat are celebrated over winning unabashedly. The pursuit of excellence and exceptionalism are at the heart of American identity, and the disappearance of these ideals in our country leaves a deep moral and cultural vacuum in its wake. But the solution isn’t to simply complain about it. It’s to revive a new cultural movement in America that puts excellence first again.

Ce que les critiques en disent
"Black’s Manifesto reminds us who we were and, therefore, who we are. In doing so, he lays the groundwork for us to consider who we might yet become." (Jordan Peterson, University of Toronto, author of 12 Rules for Life)

Succinct story of Canada with some great ideas
Conrad Black is a storied and articulate reader. Even if you disagree with some or all of his viewpoints, this is a must read for Canadians in search if knowing more about their country. I personally disagree with his views on internal affairs and economics, but he still makes a lot of good points and gives much to think about and contemplate.

Insightful and entertaining
Any Canadian patriot would love this book as it details possible ways that Canada could actually be regarded as a great country on the world stage. This book perhaps over simplifies some complex issues, but it believe it to be very interesting and well founded. My one issue with this particular audiobook is the terrible pronunciation of some french words by the narrator.

Interesting, but radical.
Enjoyed the history and the current state of Canada. Conrad has some good thoughts on economic growth but his ideas on government structure modeled after the French republic I respectfully disagree.
I wish Conrad narrated his own book rather than a guy with a north Chicago accent who cannot pronounce Saskatchewan or Canada like a Canadian.

A thoughtful appraisal of Canada and what we can become
While the pronunciation of the American narrator may cause a few giggles here and there, this is an excellent read.
Black’s insightful essay was excellent, chock full of excellent ideas as to how Canada can come into its own and become a country worthy of emulation.
