À propos de cet audio

Violent, provocative, shocking. Call them what you will, but don't call them open and shut.

Did Lizzie Borden murder her own father and stepmother? Was Jack the Ripper actually the Duke of Clarence? Who killed JonBenet Ramsey? America's foremost expert on criminal profiling and 25-year FBI veteran John Douglas, along with author and filmmaker Mark Olshaker, explores those tantalizing questions and more in this mesmerizing work of detection. With uniquely gripping analysis, the authors reexamine and reinterpret the accepted facts, evidence, and victimology of the most notorious murder cases in the history of crime, including the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, the Zodiac Killer, and the Whitechapel murders. Utilizing techniques developed by Douglas himself, they give detailed profiles and reveal chief suspects in pursuit of what really happened in each case. The Cases That Haunt Us not only offers convincing and controversial conclusions, it deconstructs the evidence and widely held beliefs surrounding each case and rebuilds them - with fascinating, surprising, and haunting results.

Captivating Book

I am a huge fan of true crime stories. This book was a great listen for the most part. I found some parts to be too dragged out, such as Jack the Ripper. I feel the points were covered repeatedly in all the stories. I found myself skipping some chapters as things were being talked about two or three times. I did enjoy exploring the facts of each case and hearing some different parts you may not hear in every other version.

Overall not bad

I listen to a lot of crime, I write crime, and I'm very picky about voices because I work in radio. This absolutely checks all my boxes. Superior narration, excellent writing, and the research is of course second to none. I loved it. I was particularly intrigued by the Lizzie Borden story as I had never heard that much detail on the case before. And leading with Jack the Ripper was brilliant. It hooked me and didn't let go.

Excellent

I really enjoyed the book, my only critique would be that I would have preferred the chapters labeled with which story it was telling. I went back to relisted to one story and I had to work hard to find it! great listen!

interesting details

Yeah, sometimes reading this makes me feel dirty cause Douglas is an obvious self-promoter ultimately making money from tragedy, but at the same time it's just so interested.

I love this book

John Douglas has figured out exactly what we want to know and how to deliver it. lots of facts are given but the book tells a story rather then just give facts. all his books are good. this might be the best one.

gold

I thoroughly enjoyed the narration, the story and the insight. Well worth the time to listen. Gives you a new perspective on cases who thought you already knew everything about. Highly recommend.

I loved everything about this book, and found every bit of it interesting. I love how it uses very casual vocabulary and is written like a conversation between friends.
The author gives his opinion freely yet never condescendingly, which is rare for someone of his position and expertise. He is to behavior analysis what Freud was to psychological analysis, without the quarks.
Obviously I find the field fascinating, but was surprised at how well this was written. If this wasn’t included in the plus library I doubt I would have used a credit for it, yet I plan on using ones on everything from the authors. Narrator was great as well and fit the part perfectly. I was surprised he wasn’t the author actually.
I’m usually very critical of audiobooks I would say, but this may be the best one I’ve listened to ever. I only wish it was longer. It’s broken up in many chapters which makes navigating easy. It would have been helpful if the chapters had titles to some extent though.
