À propos de cet audio

Let the voyages begin!

Colonel Jason Azoros is having a bad year. Having taken over the Argonauts’ mercenary company when its previous owner was killed, he has arrived back at Karma to find that no one will deal with him. Blacklisted by his father, Jason is forced to do a job for him to clear his name.

The early days of humanity’s expansion into space was an exciting time, as the best of the race went to the stars. Unfortunately, some of the worst went, as well, and the Argonauts must hunt down and destroy the worst of the worst, Colchis Industries.

Colchis has powerful friends, though, and its coffers are overflowing with credits, allowing it to hire mercenaries and buy equipment beyond what the Argonauts can afford. They also meddle in genetics, and their creations range from...interesting...to unstoppable.

Outmanned and outgunned, Jason and his crew embark on their voyage short on equipment but long on attitude. One thing is for sure - win, lose, or draw, they’re going to go out in style!

That's More Like It..

Book One in the 'Four Horseman Tales' Audiobook series (Christopher Woods's 'Legend') was a fantastic introduction to a Merc-driven SciFi Military Action-Adventure Technothriller platform. Book Two ('Weaver') was more of a child-friendly 'Charlotte's Web' friendship story about a member of one of the merc species - and frankly pretty stupid (unless you're seven). "Where is this series going?", I asked myself. It didn't bode well..
Fortunately, this episode takes the best advantage of the soldier-of-fortune action paradigm promised by the FH Universe yet: To be certain, Kal Spriggs is an average author overall - providing "acceptable" vocabulary/prose, "decent" pacing, and "fun" combat scenes - but this uncomplicated book (based loosely on the Myth of 'Jason and the Argonauts') is undeniably entertaining.

Above-average reading from James Patrick Cronin doubtless improves my opinion of the book. Some of his accent choices (like the 'Bill & Ted' interpretation of "surfer-dude" 'Syedis') are pretty weak, but his diction, timbre, cadence, and tone are spot-on. Given a choice between a text copy of this book (paper or eBook) and this Podium Audio production.. pick this one.

Altogether, 'The Colchis Job' - despite some Classics inspiration and some surprisingly sophisticated astrophysics conjecture - is much more immature than most of the SciFi that I read (the 'Bond-Villain' bad guy is over-the-top). Still, it merits a respectable 8 stars out of 10. Having gotten it as a 'Plus' selection, I am thrilled with the time investment. Even should Audible ask for a Credit, you wouldn't be crazy to spend it.
