À propos de cet audio
“Jennifer Pickens provides a nuanced narration of Clover that perfectly mirrors the character’s journey—gentle, compassionate, anxious, and full of joy.”—Library Journal
This program features a bonus conversation between the author and narrator.
What’s the point of giving someone a beautiful death if you can’t give yourself a beautiful life?
From the day she watched her kindergarten teacher drop dead during a dramatic telling of Peter Rabbit, Clover Brooks has felt a stronger connection with the dying than she has with the living. After the beloved grandfather who raised her dies alone while she is traveling, Clover becomes a death doula in New York City, dedicating her life to ushering people peacefully through their end-of-life process.
Clover spends so much time with the dying that she has no life of her own, until the final wishes of a feisty old woman send Clover on a trip across the country to uncover a forgotten love story—and perhaps, her own happy ending. As she finds herself struggling to navigate the uncharted roads of romance and friendship, Clover is forced to examine what she really wants, and whether she’ll have the courage to go after it.
Probing, clever, and hopeful, The Collected Regrets of Clover turns the normally taboo subject of death into a reason to celebrate life.

In the spring of 2020, Lara’s three daughters return to the family's orchard in Northern Michigan. While picking cherries, they beg their mother to tell them the story of Peter Duke, a famous actor with whom she shared both a stage and a romance years before at a theater company called Tom Lake. Every day Iona, a larger-than-life magazine advice columnist, travels the ten stops from Hampton Court to Waterloo Station by train, accompanied by her dog, Lulu. Every day she sees the same people, whom she knows only by nickname: Impossibly-Pretty-Constant-Reader and Terribly-Lonely-Teenager. Of course, they never speak. Seasoned commuters never do. Then one morning, the man she calls Smart-But-Sexist-Manspreader chokes on a grape right in front of her. He’d have died were it not for the timely intervention of Sanjay, a nurse, who gives him the Heimlich maneuver.

Loved this story
I was hoping to find something else by the author when I finished it. Alas, no such luck, yet. This was a great story, and I really liked Clover. She's relatable and comes across as neurodiverse. I loved the immersive details of every character and setting.
The performance was also really well done so this makes an excellent audiobook choice as well. I'm "new" to fiction and this definitely has persuaded me to get into more novels.

What a lovely, meaningful, and wise story. Beautiful and relatable. Inspiring in all the right ways. A kind and gentle reminder to the barers of regrets to relish in every opportunity to master their own stories.
The narrator captured the characters so well and only added to atmosphere.

A nuanced character in a lovely story
It was interesting to see an older character go through the same journey that would normally be experienced by teens or people in their early 20s; it made sense for Clover's character. I recommend this for anyone looking for a different story than those typically told - I had no idea that a death doula even existed until reading this book!
