He is content to allow an innocent person to go to prison, to serve hard time, even to be executed.
Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high-school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.
Now nine years have passed. Travis has just been paroled in Kansas for a different crime; Donté is four days away from his execution. Travis suffers from an inoperable brain tumor. For the first time in his miserable life, he decides to do what’s right and confess.
But how can a guilty man convince lawyers, judges, and politicians that they’re about to execute an innocent man?

The confession
This book is a scathing look at the judicial system in Texas especially to non-whites. It delves into the morality of the death penalty. Hard to read at times it very eye opening. This author has done an incredible description of his characters.

My favourite Grisham novel
Captivating, well read, well written! My favourite of John Grisham‘s novels so far!!!! Definitely recommend this one!

Grisham is a master storyteller
Bought it immediately after reading the intro in the back of Skipping Christmas. Very easy to get hooked. Great story

Well-written and performed
The main protagonist was so frustrating and annoying that I could not stop listening. Grisham spun another excellent yarn.

Great Read

Not a huge fan of narration and a little to emotional for me
Maybe I just like Micheal Beck the best! I didn’t care for the narration in this book I have listened to Almost all of the audio book Grisham has released and while this isn’t the worst narration it’s probably my second least favourite after Mary Louise Parker. I also found the story to make me far more emotional than I usually get listening to books but no spoilers here!

could've ended a bit earlier
great story, and presentation,but it could've easily been over 2 hours or so earlier :)

Not one of his best
Story line seemed ok but repeated itself quite often to drag the story on. Would have been a better book

Not What I Expected from Grisham
I like Grisham. He tells a good yarn despite the fact that he's dead against the death penalty. This book has a good story and I won't spoil it for future readers. However, I found the expository nature of the narration did not draw me into the book. More than a few times, I had to set it aside and return to it later. Out of the 14 hours plus of this book perhaps 3 hours actually evoke any deep emotional interest. Most of the rest of it is like reading a technical manual. Sad really. It promised to be a truly good yarn. It started out that way but for me, it didn't deliver.
