Mrs. Post, the President and First Lady are here to see you. . . . So begins another average evening for Marjorie Merriweather Post. Presidents have come and gone, but she has hosted them all. Growing up in the modest farmlands of Battle Creek, Michigan, Marjorie was inspired by a few simple rules: always think for yourself, never take success for granted, and work hard—even when deemed American royalty, even while covered in imperial diamonds.

Berlin, 1963. An early morning spy swap, not at the familiar setting for such exchanges, nor at Checkpoint Charlie, where international visitors cross into the East, but at a more discreet border crossing, usually reserved for East German VIPs. The Communists are trading two American students caught helping people to escape over the wall and an aging MI6 operative. On the other side of the trade: Martin Keller, a physicist who once made headlines, but who then disappeared into the English prison system.

Long enough to complete a project
The story was less than gripping and left a lot unanswered in my estimation. I would have liked things tied up a bit better for the length of it. It did give me many hours of listening as I worked my way yhrough a few different projects and that is defunately worth 4 stars because I kept coming back.

Disappointing ending
After listening to such a long story, which I appreciated, the ending was abrupt and inconclusive.

Something Different
read beautifully by Jill Tanner.
This is a very interesting but not for the person who has a problem with explicit sexual scenes .
London in 1876 is a sad world of class ridden excess. This is well written and pulls no punches.
I was initially a bit shocked but the story pulls you in. I felt the ending was too abrupt though.

Not quite what I expected
This book was not quite what I expected. At times the crudeness turned me away but the story kept me coming back. I don’t feel the need for much of the course language in this book would’ve given five stars without most of it.
The storyline was rather intriguing though and the method of speaking to the reader was interesting.

a very long book for a mediocre story.
this book was extremely long for a story that had very few highs. the narrator was great. if it hadn't been for her, I probably would have given the book 2 stars.

Half of a good story .
The last forty percent of this book has the makings of a very good historical novel.
However, the first half plus the narrator, sadly turn it into a romance novel.
