À propos de cet audio
The Dark Ages is the story of the birth of Western civilization. It was a harrowing crucible of war, destruction, and faith. For over 100 years, Charles Oman's famous history has remained one of the finest sources for the study of this period. Covering a period of 500 years and an area stretching from Northern Germany to Egypt, this is the definitive history that will alter your conceptions of a period of history that gave birth to the civilization we live in today.

archaic
The reading was beautiful, and the writing was artistic and enjoyable, overall a beautiful read and a great experience.
However, the text is markedly dated, inserting value judgements all over the place, disdaining "barbarians" as primitive, even occasionally straying into light racism.
Overall a great book to read for enjoyment, but not necessarily for good unbiased education.

Frustrated and annoyed
That Audible keeps putting up history books without chapter titles. I want to know what I’m planning on listening to in more detail. I’m not looking for surprises here. Sometimes I choose to skip a period. And I want a reminder if what I’ve already heard.

This is one narrator that gets on my nerves
I'm here to vent more than anything. I love the subject matter but aaaaaah. I just can't take any more if the narrator. It would be great if i wasn't constantly distracted by the Way excessively hammed up speaking style. It was almost tolerable in the beginning. Maybe? Listen to the sample yourself, but picture 24 hours of it. It doesn't connect the words with the meaning for me when he says things that way. I mean aaaaah. Historically, probably a good foundational starting point to understand the perspective people had of the dark ages going into the twentieth century but should be followed up with more modern works on the topic. Maybe you'll tolerate the narrator but its a real struggle for me.
