À propos de cet audio
Exclusively on Audible. A Full-Cast Original Audio Drama for Ages 10 and Up.
"For a small, pretty town, we are surprisingly good at providing the unusual, the unexpected, the uncanny...."
Moving from the big city to the picturesque town of Sunnypoint seems perfect for Dillon and her mom. But the new house - a big, old Victorian - creeps Dillon out, especially the old trunk in the attic that seems to move by itself. As if that weren't bad enough, the tight-knit popular girls at her new school hate her instantly. Dillon finds solace with the quirky kids - Quinn, the film nerd, Birdie, the back-of-the-class wit, and Kumail, the history fanatic. Together they find a mysterious necklace in the trunk, and when Dillon wears it, all of her wishes seem to come true. For once the power may have shifted in her favor.
When one of Dillon's wishes is taken too literally, though, Quinn disappears, and she can't seem to wish him back. And her mom is suddenly acting super weird. Digging into the history of the house and its original owner, the kids decide maybe it's time to explore some darker magic to find Quinn. To undo what they have unleashed, they will have to delve into the deepest, darkest secrets of Sunnypoint - and face the lurking evil head on.

Great for 10 year old girl!
My daughter was into this right from the start. My 8 year old son liked it too!

Loved it!
I love how this book was written! It was so captivating and had me on the edge of my seat at times. I love the spook factor and how they used a full cast, with proper background noises that made you feel like you could picture the scene as you listened to it.

Age-Appropriate Atmospheric Story
This audiobook is aimed at kids aged 8-12. It's a little too creepy for little kids and a little too sophomoric for older kids, but it settles on a satisfactory level of spooky without being overly scary. It's immersive enough that listeners can leave the story and quickly become reinvested, but also well-paced (and short enough) to be consumed in one or two sittings - trips to school and back would work - as would a long road trip to Grandma's.
The book strikes a nice balance of:
• Moralistic (the protagonist - 13-year-old Dillon - is a stereotypically "good" kid.. worthy of emulation)
• Relatable ('New kid in town' story arc - trying to make new friends and avoid bullies; a newly-divorced single mom dynamic),
and
• Spine-tingling (A creepy old house with creaking doors, a mysterious old trunk, a dangerous magical necklace, ghosts, and an occult back-story)
The production quality is fantastic. The voice cast does a marvellous job presenting the story, and the Sound Engineers overlay largely appropriate sound effects and ominous background music that helps convey mood. It's a genuinely vivid listen.
I bought this book as a Daily Deal, and it was easily worth the $2.50 I paid for it.
It has some problems: The precocious Dillon is cartoonishly moody at times, but also annoyingly friendly at others - she's not written very well, to be honest. Additionally, the plot is pretty weak (the "villain" is contrived and nothing really gets resolved), and the too-frequent "bump in the night" scares (animals suddenly jumping out of dark corners) are mixed with many, many "Mom? Mom? Where are you, Mom!?! Oh, there you are.." cheap fright tropes.
But overall, the audiobook is worth 7.5 stars out of 10. A Credit spent on this admittedly cheezy tale wouldn't be a waste if you have preteen kids.
