À propos de cet audio
A young Englishwoman obsessed with an indecipherable past, Grey comes to Tokyo seeking a lost piece of film footage of the notorious 1937 Nanking Massacre, footage some say never existed. Only one man can help Grey. A survivor of the massacre, he is now a visiting professor at a university in Tokyo. But he will have nothing to do with her. So Grey accepts a job in an upmarket nightspot, where a certain gangster may be the key to gaining the professor's trust. An old man in a wheelchair surrounded by a terrifying entourage, the gangster is rumored to rely on a mysterious elixir for his continued health.
Taut, gritty, sexy, and harrowing, The Devil of Nanking is an incomparable literary thriller set in one of the world's most fascinating cities-Tokyo-from an internationally best-selling author.

Conflicted
I looked for reviews on this book before purchasing and most reviewers online said they loved the book. A part of me hated the book from start to finish, the characters, the way the audiobook had a constant air conditioner humming sound in the background, the drawn out ending (the most anticipated part of the book was the last 26 minutes). And even the ending you're waiting for the entire length of the book was lacking for me. And another part of me really enjoyed it for the sole reason that it forces you to face your predefined notions of good and evil and this book can definitely stir up some very emotional discussions. The best (and worst) horror novels include human villains, and it pushed the listener to delve into the worst parts of mankind. There was nothing human about what happened in Nanking, and although this book is fiction, the horrors of Nanking were real, that to me was the most disturbing part of this book. It will stay with you and remind you of the worst aspects of mankind. Therefore, you should be warned, the book is not for everyone, many trigger factors, especially for people who have witnessed war and/or have been impacted by violence.

Draining.
This novel could have been half it's length and still have gotten it's point across. I enjoyed the last act, and the narrators were great, but as a whole this one was an absolute slog to get through.
It's nowhere as good as it sounds, trust me. I would not recommend it.
