The Discarded Image paints a lucid picture of the medieval worldview, providing the historical and cultural background to the literature of the middle ages and renaissance. This is a brilliant book with CS Lewis signature clarity and scholarship. It dispels many stereotypes of the Middle Ages. The narration is very poor and I couldn't finish the book: the narrator reads far too quickly with see-saw intonation that does disservice to the text: when I slowed it the intonation was still too annoying to be able to continue listening.
