À propos de cet audio
Renowned Israeli historian Ilan Pappe's groundbreaking book revisits the formation of the State of Israel. Between 1947 and 1949, over 400 Palestinian villages were deliberately destroyed, civilians were massacred, and around a million men, women, and children were expelled from their homes at gunpoint.
Denied for almost six decades, had it happened today it could only have been called "ethnic cleansing." Decisively debunking the myth that the Palestinian population left of their own accord in the course of this war, Ilan Pappe offers impressive archival evidence to demonstrate that, from its very inception, a central plank in Israel's founding ideology was the forcible removal of the indigenous population. This is an indispensable book for anyone interested in the current crisis in the Middle East.

Necessary reading
This is necessary reading for anyone wishing to understand the seemingly complex yet actually simple reality taking place in Palestine.
I would highly recommend reading Rashid Khalidi’s The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine first.

Horrifying But Accurate truth
Fantastically researched. My only criticism is that I wish it didn’t jump back and forth in time but I think for the point of the book, it was necessary. Pappe even learned Arabic in order to get the full stories from the Palestinians. Although difficult in content, this is extremely important to bear witness to how the Zionists weaponized their trauma against another population. We must bear witness and reconcile the fact that the truth has been deliberately obscured from us. 10/10 read (or listen)

good book, bad performance.
why the hell is the narrator making voices for the people quoted?! and why the made up accent for pronouncing some of the names?

absolutely loved the clarity and the insights
very insightful and honest look at the history of Israel by a Jewish author. to me the capacity to honestly look at the history of ones country deserves a tremendous amount of respect.
if we had more courageous people like him, we would not have wars. I am inspired and hope to be able to bring this courage and honestly into my life.
deep thanks.

Excellent history, unfortunate narration
This is a captivating book, based on primary sources and bravely told. The narrator's reliance on accents when quoting from sources is ridiculous and borders on the offensive. Never in all the non-fiction books I have listened to have I encountered this choice. Unfortunate and detracts from the listening experience. The consistent mispronunciation of the word "Nakba" is egregious. Still, I recommend the book. Well done.

A must-read on the history of Palestine
This is one of my favourite books on the subject. Understanding how the issues in Palestine started are key to understanding what is happening today. This is my go-to book when I recommend a book to anyone.

Amazingly detailed and referenced, unlike many opinion pieces. Want to really learn the facts? Here they are.

The Subjugation of Palestinian Arabs
Good presentation ! The books reader did a great job. This book refutes a lot of the material I’ve read that was written by Israeli authors.

sloppy work in providing factual sources
This book travels thru events mostly between 1940-1948 , providing important oral history of Palestinians. However, since this book aspires to be a historical work, I expected it be accompanied with supporting data to reinforce the claims. Especially regarding the "established history", there was no effort made to provide contradicting sources that would support the new points of view offered by this book - except for in very few cases.
I was hoping to be presented with neutral and honest information that would help the reader paint a full picture, but the writer interprets the events while talking about them, without any explanation on how he arrived at those conclusions.
To conclude, if this book was named "Palestinians talk about 1948" that would be a valid title, as their story should be told. But for a historian to present this work without explaining the gaps and contradictions to other sources, does not do any favour to the individuals whose experiences should be told.
