À propos de cet audio
Wildly original, funny, and moving, The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August is an extraordinary story of a life lived again and again from World Fantasy Award-winning author Claire North.
Harry August is on his deathbed. Again.
No matter what he does or the decisions he makes, when death comes, Harry always returns to where he began, a child with all the knowledge of a life he has already lived a dozen times before. Nothing ever changes. Until now. As Harry nears the end of his 11th life, a little girl appears at his bedside. "I nearly missed you, Doctor August", she says. "I need to send a message".
This is the story of what Harry does next, and what he did before, and how he tries to save a past he cannot change and a future he cannot allow.

Histoire
Touch is an electrifying thriller by the author of The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August and 84K. He tried to take my life. Instead, I took his. It was a long time ago. I remember it was dark, and I didn't see my killer until it was too late. As I died, my hand touched his. That's when the first switch took place. Suddenly, I was looking through the eyes of my killer, and I was watching myself die. Now switching is easy. I can jump from body to body, have any life, be anyone. Some people touch lives. Others take them. I do both.

At first, it looks like a disease. An epidemic that spreads through no known means, driving its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. But the force that’s sweeping the world is no pathogen. It’s just the first shock wave, unleashed by a stunning discovery - and what’s in jeopardy is not our minds but the very fabric of time itself. In New York City, Detective Barry Sutton is closing in on the truth - and in a remote laboratory, neuroscientist Helena Smith is unaware that she alone holds the key to this mystery...and the tools for fighting back.

My name is Hope Arden, and you won't know who I am. But we've met before—a thousand times. It started when I was 16 years old. A father forgetting to drive me to school. A mother setting the table for three, not four. A friend who looks at me and sees a stranger. No matter what I do, the words I say, the crimes I commit, you will never remember who I am. That makes my life difficult. It also makes me dangerous. The Sudden Appearance of Hope is a riveting and heartbreaking exploration of identity and existence, about a forgotten girl whose story will stay with you forever.

You know the future that people in the 1950s imagined we'd have? Well, it happened. In Tom Barren's 2016, humanity thrives in a techno-utopian paradise of flying cars, moving sidewalks, and moon bases, where avocados never go bad and punk rock never existed...because it wasn't necessary. Except Tom just can't seem to find his place in this dazzling, idealistic world, and that's before his life gets turned upside down.

That was a long time ago, of course - before the time she calls "adoption day", when she and a dozen other children found themselves being raised by a man they learned to call Father.

Hey surprisingly fresh idea
I am always surprised when a book abused on a single character’s point of view is as captivating as this. This unique twist on a time travel type book had me listening closely to each detail. The only criticism I have is that while the performer did a great job convincing me the I was listening to the protagonist himself, nearly all of the other male voices sounded the same.

Outstanding Fantasy Thriller
The amount of detail and thought gone into writing this book is masterful. I was hooked and willingly strung along Harry's quest from beginning to end. The narrator couldn't have done a better job either, as all of the characters were voiced perfectly. One of my new favourites, I would highly recommend for someone looking for a thought-provoking real-world "fantasy" story filled with the unexpected.

BRILLIANT!
What an absolutely amazing book. I have listened to a plethora of audiobooks and this is the first one in quite a while, that has captured my undivided attention.
If I could give this a 10 out of 5 stars, I would.

Interesting Concept and Well Executed
I really liked this book. Fresh take on Nietzsche’s curse/blessing of eternal return. Makes you wonder what you might do with endless life loops. Would you live for the moment and treat others as insignificant and pointless beyond your own gratification? Would you try to profit from your position? Learn all you can? Try to right wrongs or remake the world? Just live it over and over, or would you seek to end it all?
The writing is solid - not sure what others are criticizing in some of the reviews - and is exactly what I’d expect from the lead character. Though he us male, North’s female perspective I think lends a lot to the genre, development, and dialog.
The narration was great. He gives the right voice to the words. Just one thing to nitpick: the American accents were totally off and distracting. Thankfully, they are rare enough.

Thoroughly enjoyed
I usually only listen to audiobooks while driving. This one had me so caught up in it that I just had to listen to the last 4 hours at home on my couch. I simply couldn't wait to find out the rest of the story.

Not really time travel
Harry is born, dies, and much to his surprise is born again. He is in the same place, same time, the same birth, the same circumstances, but as he reaches age 3, he remembers everything about his previous trip through life. It allows him to do something different. This allows the subsequent trips through life to be much more comfortable. If you know who won a particular sporting match that you could bet on, or a stock that was going to be hot or go under, you can quite quickly and early in life make enough money that you can do whatever you want. Oddly, on every trip through, events not involving you, are the same. WWII happens the same, the same races, games, matches are won by the same people.
It turns out there are other people like him, both that came before and that come after. Messages can be sent between the centuries by somebody who is young in talking to somebody who is old and about to die.
That is really the setup for this story. I can't do more without adding spoilers.
The narration is good. The narrators american accent isn't great but fortunately he only has to do it for a very short period. The story moves along very well. It spends some time giving you the setup, then the investigation and finally the nemesis. I liked how every move is considered as part of the long game. How Harry gathers information in one life, and in order to not draw suspicion upon himself, doesn't act on it until the next life. It some ways this book is reminiscent of "The 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle"
