À propos de cet audio

In Mary's world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth.

But, slowly, Mary's truths are failing her. She's learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power. And, when the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. Now, she must choose between her village and her future, between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

"A bleak but gripping story.... Poignant and powerful." (Publishers Weekly, starred)

This had a lot of promise. I am disappointed.

I really wanted to like this. Good start, but too much in the head of the narrator, a flat, selfish, unlikeable character that put herself before everyone she claimed to care about. Her true appreciation of them manifested only when she made selfish decisions which resulted in their loss, and never learned from any of her mistakes until she was "screaming against their loss" that she really understood the magnitude. But them how many personal losses does a person need to endure that they value those around them for their worth? Apocalypse. I get it. But also not. Your mom? Okay sorry. The love of your life
you sacrificed everything for but never appreciated his sacrifice
s to be with you because somewhere there is ocean? Ugh... Um... not good. Okay, but seriously
okay now your brother!?! Wow, no, get over yourself. I think a good performance may have had a minute chance of perhaps saving this, but the weirdly monotone performance -- save oddly embarrassing attempts at deeper voices for male characters -- was just awkward. Maybe I am not the best audience for YA titles but I had no issues with The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner. This title is nowhere near competing with those, and this is one book. Disappointed that it was so highly rated. Would not recommend this trite sad romantic rectangle. VC Andrews is better and I would never recommend that in good conscience.
