À propos de cet audio
A lost child: On the eve of the first world war, a little girl is found abandoned on a ship to Australia. A mysterious woman called the Authoress had promised to look after her – but the Authoress has disappeared without a trace.
A terrible secret: On the night of her 21st birthday, Nell O'Connor learns a secret that will change her life forever. Decades later, she embarks upon a search for the truth that leads her to the windswept Cornish coast and the strange and beautiful Blackhurst Manor, once owned by the aristocratic Mountrachet family.
A mysterious inheritance: On Nell's death, her granddaughter, Cassandra, comes into an unexpected inheritance. Cliff Cottage and its forgotten garden are notorious among the Cornish locals for the secrets they hold – secrets about the doomed Mountrachet family and their ward Eliza Makepeace, a writer of dark Victorian fairytales. It is here that Cassandra will finally uncover the truth about the family and solve the century-old mystery of a little girl lost.

Beautifully interwoven characters
Best book I’ve (read/listened to) in a long time! The intricacies between the characters is captivating. Yes, it may appear to be a long story, but it flies by with the way the author weaves the mystery. I’ve read many mystery writers, but they are usually crime and police or detective related. However, this book wraps mystery in an unexpected beautiful imagery tied up with a captivating ribbon. Great read!

Excellent Writing
This is an expertly written novel that weaves a complex storyline spanning three generations and two continents. The stories are linked by an intriguing mystery, fairytales, and the plight of being a woman. The writing is outstanding and the performance excellent. It's a loooooong book and perfect for those that want to sink into something dense. Others might struggle with the number of characters and multiple metaphors. I've been meaning to read it for a long time and am so glad I did.
