À propos de cet audio
Welcome to Cabin Green, where the setting is familiar, but the story is completely unexpected. A terrifying slow-burn that combines the literary Gothic prose of Shirley Jackson, Ambrose Bierce, and Thomas Tryon with the "what's really real?" aspects of The Shining. The Haunting of Cabin Green has also been compared to the devastation of Hereditary and the socially progressive, ambiguous approach of Paul Tremblay.
Going to Cabin Green alone after the death of his fiancee was Ben's first mistake. His second mistake was tempting fate by saying, "There's no such thing as an evil building." Now he's caught in a nightmare of his own making deep in the woods of Northern Michigan. Even worse, a family history of mental illness makes it impossible for him to know if the ghosts haunting the cabin are real or all in his head.
This modern Gothic horror story takes the listener directly into Ben's hellish experience. Is he crazy? Is a ghost haunting him? The only way to find out is to make it to the end of this deep, dark thrill ride that's filled with more twists than a roller coaster.

Predictable but okay
The main part of the story was predictable with the twist being alright. Not an overly thrilling read but not bad if you’re looking for something a bit slower paced that doesn’t require too much concentration.

Passable Horror Fare
Anytime a publisher's summary characterizes a book as a "Slow Burn", I get nervous. That usually translates to "Nothing Happens" until the climax, and the pacing is *brutal*.
Fortunately, April A. Taylor employs effective imagery borrowed heavily from films like 'The Evil Dead' and 'Poltergeist' to inform a reasonably-paced tale about a malevolent spirit isolating in-mourning-widower-with-a-dying-mom-in-a-psychiatric-hospital 'Ben Tremblay' in a remote cottage and tormenting him. The hauntings are perhaps a little heavy on the deviant sexual side (forcing Ben to picture himself f**king his dead fiancée's corpse while masturbating for some reason was a little excessive).. but incorporated judiciously.
There were a few times that I rolled my eyes at the odd rationalizations that the protagonist exhibits when the bizarre hallucinations, dreams, and paranormal experiences hit him - but they weren't so implausible that I lost interest.
The distinctly average reading by Matt Godfrey contributes to the "Con" side of the Pro/Con ledger, unfortunately. His diction, cadence, and timing are fine - but his tone is inconsistent, his voice-acting is occasionally inferior, and his natural reading timbre doesn't suit the text at all. This is an "adequate" listening product.
The combination of: occasionally unoriginal imagery, an over-reliance on "shocking" sexual content, and unspectacular performance - render 'The Haunting Of Cabin Green' a relatively disappointing 7 stars out of 10. As a 'Plus' selection, it's a reasonable way to spend a couple of quiet afternoons - but spend your Credit on something else should they ask for one.

Strictly average
In a story like this one needs to care about the main character. It doesn't work when you don't feel any empathy towards him or his loss. I think the story had potential but after a while I felt so indifferent that I didn't care at all. Am glad I didn't waste any credit on this one.

Not the best
I would probably have enjoyed this book had the author not continuously added jabs against conservatives.
