Dry
The narrator was very monotone which made the chapters following his capture even more dry.

Dry but captivating
As a fan of Ann Rule books when I was young, this was my first audible version, while the narration was dry and somewhat robotic it didn’t distract from the telling insight into disturbing human behaviour.

Great - Albeit Inconsistent- True Crime
This Ann Rule exposé was written early in her career when she wrote under the pseudonym Andy Stack. Although she had not yet fully developed her phenomenal understanding of the psychology of criminals, this book demonstrates nicely Rule's signature talent for weaving the elements of horrific crimes into a relatable, chilling narrative. By the midpoint of 'The I-5 Killer', the reader feels they have a solid understanding of Randall Brent Woodfield, his friends, his victims, and the investigators who spent tens of thousands of hours hunting a genuine monster. The chronicle is legitimately gripping. Unfortunately, the last third of the book falls into more of a direct "courtroom transcript" mode.. complete with word-for-word submitted court documents - it gets fairly dry - and surrenders some of the gains won by a heretofore well-paced, exemplary True Crime novel.
The narration from Laural Merlington is commendable. She injects gravitas into the reading and does impressive voice-acting. True, her tone and cadence are a little mechanical (I had to speed the playback rate to 1.10X to optimize the recording), but I would listen to Merlington's work again any day.
I rate this captivating audiobook 8.5 stars out of 10. It's worth your Credit.
