There is quite a decent life to be had, if you're a good smuggler, and Monte is better than good. The problem is that Carbon has been contacted by Bosh, a man from her old life, claiming that her home system is under attack. That her people aren't going to survive without - and probably even with - her help.
Avery think's it's a trap, and Monte certainly doesn't trust Bosh. Savannah can't even figure out what war Bosh is talking about. But Carbon feels compelled by the call to protect her home and now, trap or not, the crew of the Kingfisher is heading into danger.
