À propos de cet audio

When the cards are stacked against you, the Kings will even the odds. Binge the best-selling The Kings: Wild Cards series in one set!

Stacking the Deck:

Ex-Special Forces communications sergeant Jacopo “Jack” Constantino heads the cybersecurity department at Four Kings Security. But life for Jack is pretty uneventful—despite the exploits with his brothers-in-arms—and he finds himself longing for a little more excitement.

Be careful what you wish for.

Fitz spent the last two years picking up the pieces of his life after a disastrous relationship. After much therapy and ice cream, Fitz leaves the fashion world behind and returns home to St. Augustine to open his own high-end salon, Hair Comes Trouble. There’s only one thing missing, or rather, one man missing, but Fitz has his doubts.

Fitz and Jack discover their connection has only grown stronger over time, thanks in part to meddling friends, but just as they start to pick up where they left off, someone takes exception to their reunion. Danger hides in the shadows, a stalker determined to keep Fitz out of Jack’s life, no matter the cost.

Raising the Ante:

Former firefighter Frank Ramirez has never been afraid of the heat, until it came in the form of the sweet and sinful Joshua Sterling.

Frank’s days of rushing into burning buildings might be behind him, but as the owner of one of the most prestigious gay nightclubs in Florida, he’s still putting out fires. Lately it’s been one disaster after another, making Frank grumpier than usual. If that wasn’t enough, someone is out to sabotage his business.

Joshua has a plan. He’s done pining after the man of his dreams and ready to do something about the sizzling attraction between them. He sets out to help Frank, and as executive assistant to billionaire Colton Connolly—and friend to his mayhem-magnet husband—Joshua knows a thing or two about managing chaos.

When a hidden threat raises the stakes, Joshua and Frank are put to the test. Can they win the fight for their love...and their lives?

Sleight of Hand:

Former Special Forces Green Beret, Sacha “Joker” Wilder, is well-versed on the subject of demolitions. As a silent partner of Four Kings Security, Joker spends his days working alongside his brothers-in-arms and his best boy, Chip—a bomb-sniffing Belgian Malinois with sass. Years of military and private security experience have prepared Joker for almost anything, except the explosive attraction between him and Giovanni Galanos.

When Gio returns from his travels abroad, everyone is charmed by the handsome billionaire philanthropist, but in Joker’s experience, anyone who’s too good to be true usually is. Gio is hiding something, but the more time Joker spends around Gio, the more his walls start crumbling, leaving him exposed and at risk of losing his heart, something he swore he would never do. Love is for suckers, and that’s not him.

For years Gio has dedicated his life to his charity work, helping people around the globe, but when things go horribly wrong during one particular trip, Gio decides it’s time to come home for good. The desire for family, and a certain ex-Green Beret with a chip on his shoulder, has Gio eager to restart his life stateside. For all of Sacha’s blustering and griping, no one makes Gio feel safer. If only Sacha could see how right they are for each other.

Danger lurks in the shadows as someone sets their sights on Gio, and secrets are forced into the light.

Hours of adventure and romance :)

3.9 overall. This was lovely to listen to as a complete set, and I had hours of audio enjoyment. I liked seeing familiar faces from the Kings and getting to know the Wild Cards better.

In the Cards (short)
3.5/5 It was nice to see Quinn and Spencer again, as well as seeing Ace, his family, and the guys all pitch in, no matter whose wedding it was. Not sure how much sense this would make if you hadn’t read any of the other books, but it was a cute glimpse of many beloved characters.

Stacking the Deck
4/5 I wasn’t expecting quite so much time to have passed since Fitz and Jack first met, but I thought the explanation made sense (even if it would have been more sensible for Fitz to at least talk to Jack first). I liked the way their connection flared immediately back to life and how they both respected what the other person did and actually had a fair bit of knowledge about one another from their friends. (It was very clear that the interest was ongoing even when it wasn’t working out.) I like how they fit right in with the big group and how they all always took care of one another. (And I really liked that Jack took care of Fitz no matter how things were going between them personally. He’s a good person.)

Most of the tension came from the stalker plot, with only a bit of drama between the couple, which suited me well. I enjoyed the special date Fitz and Jack went on, the hints of other couples to come, playing with Chip and the baby, and the fact that Fitz is fierce and can protect himself (as well as benefiting from the King’s protection).

Raising the Ante (novella)
3.75/5 It was nice to see Frank and Joshua get their HEA. I was listening to this on audio, so I didn’t realise it was as short as it was, so the ending took me a bit by surprise. (It did make sense plot-wise, I just hadn’t quite caught up to the fact that that’s where we were in the plot, lol.) I liked Joshua’s ridiculous plan, Ace’s “love doves”, Joshua’s amazing organisational skills, and Frank being so protective and trying to give so much back. It was nice to see him take a chance. I would have liked to see a bit more time where they were communicating and things were going well for them. There were reasons for the misunderstanding, but we didn’t really get to see them actually resolve it, we had high drama instead. Would have liked a bit more of a balance for both, but I still really like them as a couple and am glad they’re together.

Sleight of Hand
4.25/5 I wasn’t totally sure how I was going to like the dynamic between Joker and Gio after the hints from the previous books, but they were awesome together! They had a rocky start and a few miscommunications, but for the most part, they were really cute. Both of them needed to figure out what they wanted in life, and I liked how they shared a lot about themselves and made their behaviour explicable. I loved Chip and Cookie and their interactions with their men. I liked how Joker and Gio both had vulnerable sides and things they didn’t want to talk about (but needed to). I appreciated how supportive the guys were—and how they were the voice of reason during the miscommunication (which I thought was reasonable given the heightened emotions and relative brevity). These two make a great couple (in their salmon pink house, lol).

not as good as the four kings, but ok.

One of the reviewers mentioned that not all books in this set were full length, so I was prepared for the novellas.

This box set was ok, not as good as the four kings box set but ok nonetheless. The four kings box set was 5 stars while this det was 3.5 at the most.

The narrator, Greg Boudreaux, was amazing and brought the stories to life, and because of this, each story was entertaining.

I like Fitz and Jack's story, but unlike all the other stories where you could possibly see the relationship working, regardless of the differences between the couples, in Fitz and Jack's story, I did not.
I found that instead of just an opposites attract scenario like the other couples, or miscommunication/assumption being the cause of a major disagreement, in this story, the issue, to me, was far more serious and insurmountable, but this was brushed over and the "love conquers all" rhetoric was in full effect. That ruined the romance part of the story for me. I will say that in their story, there was way more action than in all of the other stories, I kept guessing who the crazy person was amd got it all wrong. There was so many instances of peril happening in this book, that it made the story that much more enjoyable for me and saved the book as it would have been a one star based on the romance if not for the action.

The novellas were cute. josh and Frank's story, was funny but way too fast. it was just as action pack, but over way too quickly. I think I would have enjoyed more but understand that they needed to stay side characters.
I could have sworn there was also supposed to be a novella of the marine and king's assistant. Maybe I missed it.

Gio and joker's story was a bit confusing and a little bit of a letdown because I almost immediately guessed who the person was behind it all.
I was so excited for Gio as a character because of the tiny snippets of his personality in other stories, but when it came to his story, it fell flat. That sultriness that we saw in other stories was there in the beginning and then didisappeared very quickly.
still a good story in the box set, but it felt like the author rushed it or it was written by a ghost writer. the humor was there, but not like before, the antics were pretty much gone. The involvement by the rest of the team was almost non-existent. They showed up, but unlike all the other stories where they acted as a team and were involved, in this story, it was joker and chip and Gio by themselves and then a few cameos by the other team members. Even the miscommunication and the issues between the couples fell flat.
The reveal of the bad guy was also over in a blink of an eye, and with very minimal involvement by the rest of the team. for me, this story needed a lot of rewriting.

The Epilogue. I have no idea what the epilogue was about, and I'm wondering if there is some story somewhere that is going to include the cousin, but for this story, it made no sense.
To have a wedding, an entire chapter dedicated to people that we never get introduced to in the books felt like such an afterthought or filler.
