À propos de cet audio

From the world’s #1 bestselling author, The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe is a true crime thriller about a woman who changed Hollywood history, and whose indelible image captures our imagination to this day.

“Electrifying … A spellbinding new account of the star’s final days by the world’s greatest thriller writer." —Daily Mail

In life, Marilyn Monroe’s superstardom defies classification. In death, she remains shrouded in mystery.

In the months before her death, Marilyn polishes the script for her ultimately unfinished film, Something’s Got to Give.

In the weeks before her death, she drinks champagne on Santa Monica Beach with the last photographer to take her picture.

In the days before her death, she’s a guest of Frank Sinatra in the Celebrity Room at the Cal Neva Lodge.

In the hours before her death, she argues with US Attorney General Bobby Kennedy and his brother-in-law Peter Lawford.

In an emergency session with her psychiatrist, she confesses: “Here I am, the most beautiful woman in the world, and I do not have a date for Saturday night.”

On June 1, 2026, the world celebrates Marilyn Monroe’s one hundredth birthday … without her.

I expected that this book would either bring new insight into the events that led to Marilyn Monroe's death, or new evidence that her death was the result of a criminal act. It does not. Nor does it focus on the woman's last days, as promised by the title. Instead, it chronicles the story of her already thoroughly examined life–with her last days, as they have always been reported–tossed in at the end. It reads just like every other of the thousands of unauthorized MM biographies in existence. I could practically have recited it in my sleep.

The epilogue states that this book is a work of imagination, while the cover states that it is a 'true crime thriller.' It cannot be both fact and fiction. It's not a true crime thriller since it does not speculate nor show evidence that a crime, other than suicide, occurred. Neither is it a work of fiction, as stated in the epilogue, The author uses real names and documented quotes of the actual people involved in the real Ms Monroe's life from birth to death, within a dated timeline identical to those chronicled in the innumerable books, articles, essays, and films produced on the subject during the past seventy years. Where is the fiction?

If you want a well crafted fiction inspired by Monroe's life, read 'Blonde' by Joyce Carol Oates (pub 2004) . If you want a good factual biography, read 'Marilyn Monroe: A Biography' by Barbara Leaming (pub 2010). If you want neither, pick up this book.
