À propos de cet audio
The third book in the epic and bestselling series that has gripped millions.
A hero will be forged from this broken land.As seen on Netflix and BBC around the world.
The year is 878 and the Vikings have been thrown out of Wessex. Uhtred, fresh from fighting for Alfred in the battle to free Wessex, travels north to seek revenge for his father's death, killed in a bloody raid by Uhtred's old enemy, renegade Danish lord, Kjartan.
While Kjartan lurks in his formidable stronghold of Dunholm, the north is overrun by chaos, rebellion and fear. Together with a small band of warriors, Uhtred plans his attack on his enemy, revenge fuelling his anger, resolute on bloody retribution. But, he finds himself betrayed and ends up on a desperate slave voyage to Iceland. Rescued by a remarkable alliance of old friends and enemies, he and his allies, together with Alfred the Great, are free to fight once more in a battle for power, glory and honour.
‘The Lords of the North’ is a tale of England's making, a powerful story of betrayal, struggle and romance, set in an England torn apart by turmoil and upheaval.

After Englishman John Blackthorne is lost at sea, he awakens in a place few Europeans know of and even fewer have seen—Nippon. Thrust into the closed society that is seventeenth-century Japan, a land where the line between life and death is razor-thin, Blackthorne must negotiate not only a foreign people, with unknown customs and language, but also his own definitions of morality, truth, and freedom. As internal political strife and a clash of cultures lead to seemingly inevitable conflict, Blackthorne’s loyalty and strength of character are tested by both passion and loss.

The life of Emperor Charles V (1500-1558), ruler of Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and much of Italy and Central and South America, has long intrigued biographers. But the elusive nature of the man (despite an abundance of documentation), his relentless travel and the control of his own image, together with the complexity of governing the world's first transatlantic empire, complicate the task.

Ce que les critiques en disent
‘Beautifully crafted story-telling, complete with splendid set-piece battles and relentless derring-do, so gripping that it rarely stops to catch a breath. It demonstrates once again Cornwell’s enormous skill as a historical narrator. He would have graced Alfred’s court entertaining the guests with his stories.’
Daily Mail
‘Cornwell takes the spectres of ninth century history and puts flesh back on their bones. Here is Alfred's world restored – impeccably researched and illuminated with the colour and passion of a master storyteller.’
Justin Pollard, author of ‘Alfred the Great’

Greatest series ever
The Lords of the North takes off where the last book left off. It’s important to start from book one The Last Kingdom. It is worth listening to the whole series. There is thirteen books altogether. This is one of the best stories I’ve ever listen to. I am on book six now .

A most excellent narrator. I enjoy him bring this story to life. The different accents that he uses are just perfect and add to the magic of his storytelling. Books like these needs someone like Mr. Keeble to put life into each scene. Awesomely done!

In Love with this Series
I hang on every word in this series and love the narration by Jonathan Keeble with one exception, his depiction of female characters. He makes even the most strong female character sound weak and feeble. It's incredibly frustrating and embarrassing to listen to as a woman. He has so many wonderful male voices therefore I can't understand why he continues to narrate women in such a way.
Normally, I tend to get bored after long battle scenes but not as Bernard Cornwell has written them, I want to hear more and learn more. I feel the fear, battle rage and joy right along with the characters.

Compelling historical fiction
Cornwell's series provides the perfect balance of fact with fiction. The characters move through the historically determined plot with depth and personality, and not merely as place holders. The performance is also superb. The characterization is subtle but effective.

Most enjoyable
Still loving listening to the virtuosic Jonathan Keeble narrate these stories.
I love it when an author can present you with a protagonist who is NOTHING like you or anyone you know, and yet make you identify with him, so that you actually feel you understand him - more, that you empathize with him completely. It's delightful. It's what fiction is *for*.

Another great story
I loved The Lords of the North, the third book in The Last Kingdom series by Bernard Cornwell. The author continues to weave a gripping and realistic story of a crucial period in England’s history. Uhtred is a captivating character who narrates his own story with humor, honesty and insight. He is a skilled and courageous warrior, but also a complex and conflicted man. He has to balance his Saxon heritage and his Danish upbringing, his loyalty to Alfred and his ambition to reclaim his land, his love for his wife and his attraction to another woman. The book also features other intriguing characters, such as Guthred, Sihtric and Finan. The book is full of action, drama and intrigue, as well as historical details and descriptions. I was hooked from the first page to the last and I couldn’t put it down. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction, especially fans of Vikings and Anglo-Saxon history. This book is a brilliant sequel to a fascinating series.
I also want to praise the narrator, Jonathan Keeble, who did a marvelous job of bringing the characters and the story to life. He has a clear and expressive voice that captures the emotions and personalities of each character. He also switches between different accents and tones with ease and skill. He made me feel like I was listening to a real person telling me his story, not just reading a book. He is one of the best narrators I have ever heard.
