À propos de cet audio
New York City, New York.
Meet Augustus Berrycloth-Young—fop, flaneur, and Englishman abroad—as he chronicles the Jazz Age from his perch atop the city that never sleeps.
That is, until his old friend Thomas Nightingale arrives, pursuing a rather mysterious affair concerning an old saxophone—which will take Gussie from his warm bed, to the cold shores of Long Island, and down to the jazz clubs where music, magic, and madness haunt the shadows . . .

Histoire
A weekly newspaper dedicated to the weird and the wonderful (but mostly the weird), The Stranger Times is the go-to publication for the unexplained and inexplicable. At least that's their pitch. The reality is rather less auspicious. Their editor is a drunken, foul-tempered and foul-mouthed husk of a man who thinks little of the publication he edits. His staff are a ragtag group of misfits. And as for the assistant editor...well, that job is a revolving door - and it has just revolved to reveal Hannah Willis, who's got problems of her own.

Miss Clara Marie Stanton's family may be eccentric, but they certainly aren't insane. London, England, 1860: When Clara's ex-fiancé begins to spread rumors that her family suffers from hereditary insanity, it's all she can do to protect them from his desperate schemes, society's prejudice, and a lifetime in an asylum. Then Clara's grandfather Drosselmeyer brings on an apprentice with a mechanical leg, and all pretense of normalcy takes wing.

There is often trouble of a mythical sort in Bath. The booksellers who police the Old World keep a careful watch there, particularly on the entity that inhabits the ancient hot spring. This time trouble comes from the discovery of a sorcerous map, leading left-handed bookseller Merlin into great danger, requiring a desperate rescue attempt from his sister, the right-handed bookseller Vivien, and art student Susan Arkshaw, who is still struggling to deal with her own recently discovered magical heritage.

Fun Historical Urban Fantasy LBGTQ+ Novella
I bought ths the day it came out but did not find the story line appealing, but it is marvellous, I would buy another dozen of this type of novella! Plus there was the stellar narration by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
Gussie is a great character. A former school acquaintance of Nightingale's, Gussie is a bit of a dandy, incredibly witty, and very upper class British. He believes himself to be somewhat dim and unheroic but his actions (rather heroic in the end) and his lively narration of the events makes this novella a joy.
And the Jazz comes back in this novella, I have missed that too.
This feels like a return to form for Mr. Aaronovitch!

Amazing narration
I always love Kobna Holdbrook-Smith as a narrator, but this particular one is a tour-de-force. The story is great - a rollicking Bertie Wooster+magic yarn. So enjoyable.

A lot of fun, plus educational :-)
This is a great story in the Rivers of London world :-) :-) :-) It's set in the New York City of the 1920s and is historically accurate; lots of stuff to learn about back then, and how those who didn't fit the majority-mould were treated.
