À propos de cet audio
What is a Stoic?
The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius have inspired thinkers, philosophers, statesmen, entrepreneurs, poets and people from all walks of life since antiquity. Renowned as one of the most influential philosophy books in the history of the world, Marcus Aurelius’ meditations comprise a collection of personal reflections on life, stoic philosophy, duty, virtue and mortality by an Emperor of ancient Rome.
Written while on campaign defending Roman borders from barbarian tribes and other incursions between 170 to 180 AD, his thoughts shows how stoic wisdom can build unshakable resolve and resilience in the face of fate, and how stoicism arose as an antidote to chaos, a way forward in changing times when nothing was certain.
This modern adaptation is based on ‘The Thoughts of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius Antoninus’ as translated by George Long in 1889. The Marcus Aurelius original book was revised by Weston Classics to create a more accessible and enjoyable experience for contemporary listeners, while remaining true to the voice of Marcus Aurelius.
