In this acclaimed volume, Dr. Sarno reveals how many painful conditions - including most neck and back pain, migraine, repetitive stress injuries, whiplash, and tendonitises - are rooted in repressed emotions... and shows how they can be successfully treated without drugs, physical measures, or surgery. His innovative program has already produced gratifying results for thousands of patients. The Mindbody Prescription is your invaluable key to a healthy and pain-free life.

Alan Gordon, a psychotherapist and the founder of the Pain Psychology Center in Los Angeles, was in grad school when he started experiencing chronic pain and it completely derailed his life. He saw multiple doctors and received many diagnoses, but none of the medical treatments helped. Frustrated with conventional pain management, he developed Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a mind-body protocol that eliminated his own chronic pain and has transformed the lives of thousands of his patients.

Life saving info! This is where you start.
I’m not sure I’d be here without this book. I’ve had a chronic illness for 18 years. I wish I had taken this concept (TMS) seriously when I first heard of Dr Sarno. I read Healing Back pain years ago. Blew it off because I thought the pain was too intense to be in my head. I picked it up again recently and I’m so glad that I did. Reading the first section of this book completely changed my world. That was two weeks ago and I think I’m pretty much almost healed. If you think you have a mind-body illness, then chances are you do have a mind body illness. I have read that 85% of chronic illness is mind-body stuff. This is the book to start. Some of it is slightly now outdated… Remember this was written a very long time ago… But the concepts are still the same. And more importantly, the first section is the section you need to get right. If you take what is written in this book seriously… It will change your world. I would also read Alan Gordon‘s ‘The Way Out’ And I would also look up Nicole Sachs on Facebook. She has a page called journal speak. I believe it’s journalling that is going get your illness out. Read more inside and you’ll know what I mean. Read this book then get his other book then read them both then read it again. You will get more information every time you read it. Good luck.

what are you waiting for?
If you're reading these reviews then you are still stuck in your pain. I am a 25 year chronic low back pain sufferer. I found Dr. Sarno's books one month ago and read all three. My pain went away one week later and has not been back since even during one of the most stressful two weeks of my entire life.
Healing Back Pain is the Bible for TMS. Read that one first and then his other two. Then if you feel you still need more search Steve Ozanich.
Steve's work is fantastically complementary and important. He is the leading go to guy today for TMS since the passing of Dr. Sarno. Dr. Sarno and Steve are all you need.

This book is more like the technical background to his work
A large bulk of the book describes physiological technicalities of the human body and lists ailments and diseases that can be related to TMS but never in this book does it actually offer specific steps or self-therapy to heal your emotionally-caused physical pain.
It IS a fantastic background regarding the discovery and study of TMS, it's causes and descriptions, but I was hoping for something more therapeutic that would have led me through practical steps towards reducing my pain.
Skip this one unless you're looking for the more medically deep approach and education and just get the Healing Back Pain book next.
