À propos de cet audio

American agents abduct a high-profile terrorist in broad daylight on the streets of London, subduing him with a tranquilizer. He dies a few hours later on a flight back to Washington, DC, and the body is dropped into the ocean. Hours later, the President's brother - a political powerhouse in his own right - boards a plane to Las Vegas that doesn't land in Nevada. Libyan radicals are at the controls, and he is their prisoner.

The only man who can save him is Chubb Dunjee. A former United Nations operative with skills in every aspect of political negotiation, Chubb became famous for solving problems with well-placed bribes. Saving the President's brother should be no trouble for him. But the Libyans don't want a bribe. They want blood.

A Bit Dated.. but Fun

Ludlum this is not.. but Ross Thomas offers a well-plotted, reasonably entertaining, surprisingly lighthearted tale about a kidnapped/murdered Libyan terrorist and the reciprocal capture & torture of the US President's brother. Former UN "fixer" Chubb Dunjee - I'm not kidding.. that's his name - is recruited to rescue the man. Thomas's tongue-in-cheek style is refreshing, his description is vivid, and his vocabulary/prose is creditable.
Less fortunately, this 1981 story shows its age: $2.30/gallon gas is presented as horrifying, for example (how could it possibly be that much!!😅), and the incongruity between the seriousness of the subject matter and Thomas's almost-parody approach is slightly off-putting.

As to presentation: R.C. Bray is the best in the business. His cadence is noticeably iambic for some reason on this project, but he still elevates the book (download this audiobook if given the choice between this and a paper/eBook version).

Altogether, 'The Mordido Man' merits 7/10-stars. It was a serviceable free 'Plus' catalog selection.. but not worth a Credit when they ask for one. Keep browsing.
