A fun Ghost story

This was a fun ghost story about family secrets and a haunted house. Well written and spooky.

Bookworm, I draw you forth to read this book. You dare not resist. This is your charge, you must obey. THIS IS YOUR CHARGE! 

Let's talk about this fantastic story by Chris Sorensen. This is not your average ghost story. The Nightmare Room is a complex tale of haunting spirits and demonic possession. Chris Sorensen did an exceptional job of writing the cast of characters in his story. From the protagonist to the eccentric bartender, they are all captivating and relatable on many levels. The author definitely knows how to instill a slow creep while winding up the tension. I enjoyed every moment and every scene in this book. The story really sets itself apart with the seamless shift in timelines. This is something that a lot of authors have difficulty writing and can ruin the experience. That is not the case in The Nightmare Room. The author really did something special here. An entertaining cast of characters in timeline shifting slow creep that is sure to satisfy horror fans.

Characters are a big part of the reading experience for me. I feel that if a reader can connect with a character, the story becomes more immersive. I made that connection with the entire cast in this book. The protagonist often steals the show but in The Nightmare Room, everyone had their moment in the spotlight. Peter's wife Hannah is a delightful woman who knows how to keep the party going. Riggs the loud mouth eccentric bartender of the Blindrock Tavern, and Ellen the gothic clairvoyant who wastes no time telling you exactly what's on her mind. All of them are entertaining and relatable in their own way. Riggs might actually be my favorite character. I feel like him and I are old buddy's who have enjoyed one too many beers on occasion. Let's not forget about the antagonist of this story, Mr. Tell aka Whisper. He is a demon summoned by blood magic and all-around spooky fiend. I'm a massive fan of the characters in this book and will definitely follow them in The Messy Man series.

The Nightmare Room is a haunting tale with tense scenes that consistently builds up which kept me glued to the pages. I honestly couldn't stop reading this book. It was entertaining as hell! I say it is a slow and steady creep but in now way was any of this story slow. The creeps kept on coming and the tension was wound tighter than a two dollar watch. I'm not sure what else I could say other than that I read the entire book in one sitting, it was impossible to stop.

I don't want to say too much about the timelines in fear of giving too much away. I've often read books where two or more timelines are written in and the author struggles to keep the reader bound-up in the story. The Nightmare Room actually managed to keep me immersed and I never felt lost like I have reading other books trying to achieve the same thing. Chris Sorensen did an incredible job of seamlessly weaving readers between past and present, then and now.

I rate The Nightmare Room 5 / 5 stars. I absolutely enjoyed everything about this book and can't wait to start The Hungry One's which is the next book in The Messy Man series. I highly recommend this book for all the horror loving bibliophiles looking for their next read. You will no doubt devour this book as I did.
