À propos de cet audio
A journalist takes listeners into the science and history of intermittent fasting, an ancient practice in the middle of a red-hot resurgence, exploring the body's power to heal itself.
One in ten American adults tried intermittent fasting last year, and they may be on to something. The latest research shows that fasting repairs cellular damage, improves the outcomes for chemotherapy patients, and helps with keeping a healthy weight, leading to a resurgence in recent years.
Journalist Steve Hendricks’s The Oldest Cure in the World tells the history of fasting—from the ancient world (Jesus treated an epileptic with fasting) to its rediscovery centuries later, thanks in part to a heartbroken doctor who resolved to starve himself to death only to find renewed vigor—and become a media celebrity in the process. Hendricks introduces us to the people who are reviving this long-lost remedy, including open-minded doctors who have explored and practiced fasting despite the medical establishment's resistance over the centuries and everyday people eager for a cure to what ails them.
The Oldest Cure in the World is a smart narrative look at a very hot topic, offering a fascinating look at the science behind the counterintuitive concept of going without food for our health, and chronicling the author’s own illuminating and entertaining forays into fasting.

my take
very well written and mostly entertaining however some parts of the book went too far with The Narrative of his personal Journey without scientific facts. I also found that the author dismissed things that are not proven by science however the author has to understand that science can only disprove things that they know exist things that have not come under the radar of science cannot be disproven because the scientist does not know what he's looking for just like many processes in the body that are yet to be discovered. in addition from the spiritual angle the author tends to dismiss claims made by people practicing a more spiritual side of healing. he dismisses the more spiritual aspects of healing and fasting because these are not rationally confirm through scientific study however the author may be forgetting spirituality is not something that could be measured by scientific tools so we'll never be proven or disproven. the way around this is to look at the history of spirituality and how it has helped the health of people over the millennium. there is no lack of evidence for this. I think his book would be more accepting to a wider audience if he didn't try to Discount these issues. in all I think it's an excellent book but needs to be improved

I loved how the author wove fact, history and humor together.
I really enjoyed this book.
It was well written and well narrated.
I learned so many new things, enforced information I already held and was entertained throughout the process.
I've added Buchinger-Wilhelmi to my vision board and look forward to a supported fast in one of their centers with a dear friend in the coming year.

First 1/2 ok, couldn’t finish it
This started out ok, the tone was sort of humorously tart. The background and info on fasting was ok, but nothing spectacular.
I couldn’t finish the book. The 2nd half was trite and the tone moved to unashamedly arrogant and bragging. The author tries to pass it off as humour but it’s anything but. This is also where his attempt to hide his aggressive veganism fails. It’s around every other paragraph and begins to feel like a lecture.
Overall not recommended. The historical info on fasting, how-to, benefits, and guidelines can be easily found online for free. This book was neither helpful nor did it provide any new information on fasting.
