À propos de cet audio

The “queen of the sucker-punch twist” (Ruth Ware, number one New York Times best-selling author) and author of Our House weaves a suspenseful thriller about a commuter who becomes a suspect in his friend’s mysterious disappearance. Perfect for fans of the unpauseable novels by Christina McDonald and Lisa Jewell.

It all happens so quickly. One day you’re living the dream, commuting to work by ferry with your charismatic neighbor Kit in the seat beside you. The next, Kit hasn’t turned up for the boat and his wife, Melia, has reported him missing. When you get off at your stop, the police are waiting. Another passenger saw you and Kit arguing on the boat home the night before, and the police say that you had a reason to want him dead. You protest. You and Kit are friends - ask Melia, she’ll vouch for you. And who exactly is this other passenger pointing the finger? What do they know about your lives? No, whatever danger followed you home last night, you are innocent, totally innocent. Aren’t you?

The Narrator's Mouth Sounds are AWFUL!

This story was actually so interesting, but the narrator's wet mouth sounds are DISGUSTING and so distracting!

Fantastic!

Louise Candlish has done it again! What a great storyteller! This is a slow burner that's easy to stick with because the rewards are frequent and the writing is accomplished. There's a claustrophobic atmosphere throughout which builds slowly, coming to a peak in a prolonged scene in which the lead character experiences a brutal panic attack that takes place in a packed train in a tunnel in the underground, a nail-biting edge-of-the-seat description that brings to a fever pitch an ominous undertone of being trapped--by life, by opportunity, by envy, and by unrealistic ideals of what kinds of advantages one is entitled to--while also explaining the river bus that sets the stage from which the story's action pivots. An uneasy sense of foreboding is amplified by a portrait of a disintegrating London where only the very lucky are blessed with the good life. Basically, this story is about a grift, a long-con, and as such it truly is a masterpiece. You can't miss making a comparison to The Talented Mr. Ripley. Stick with it through the epilogue for a final shocking reveal that more than makes up for any disappointment you might feel for what you thought was the conclusion. And, last but not least, Steven Mackintosh's narration is outstanding! Beautifully produced. Highly recommended.

Twists for days

While you may go into this book with an idea of what it’s all about, twist after twist will have you thinking perhaps YOU did it!!!! Don’t miss this book!

Struggled to finish

I could not get fully engaged in this story. The narrator contributed to that. There was no real sense of excitement. The characters were believable.

Disgusting mouth sounds in narration

I was really annoyed by the mouth sounds of the narrator. Not the best book I’ve listened to but not so bad. The twists and turns are not too bad. I was looking forward to finish it. It’s only at almost the end of the story that I was thrilled. This story could have lasted only one hour and that all would have been said.

Protagonist was unsympathetic

Storyline was good, but I did not like the protagonist at all, and the ending was underwhelming.
