Refreshing
From some other reviews thought this was going to be old fashioned but it was relevant, modern, and my 16 yr old boy enjoyed listening while driving in the mornings. That says something!

Fantastic
Gonna make this a daily listen for my morning routine for a little while. Stay disciplined it's never to late to become who we are supposed to be 💪🏼. Great book !

Good Stuff
Really enjoyed the listen. Much of it I think is basic stuff that we just plain need to be reminded of and I was happy to be reminded of it. I found it to be a positive, encouraging message and a nice kick in the butt to re-center my thoughts and actions and get back on track, doing the things I know I should do.
Side note* I read a review from somebody named James that gave a one star and some negative comments about it. I found those comments to be completely untrue. That sounds like an angry individual who doesn't like being told to be a good man. He sounds like he is the same type of person he is describing in his review as the reason he read/listened to the book.

do not throw pearls to swine (Matt 6:7)
this book seems to be catered to or geared towards westernized Christians hence the title of my review.
I agree with 9 out of the 12 principles and would even agree with the full 12 if this was 1948 through 1963.
they are essentially asking men to be traditional men in modern times. I like reading history, I like knowing the why on things, and along with the how. if you're going to read this book, I would also recommend "Marriage, a History by Stephanie coonz". the reason why I would recommend that book in addition to this particular one should you decide to read it is because it clearly demonstrate why some of these principles would actually put you in more crisis than help should you choose to throw your pearls to swine (be traditional in a modern time).
the second thing I did not like about this book, it wants to put responsibility onto the people that have no authority. for men to take responsibility it's important to have authority to which if anyone knows the book I recommended, clearly shows we have been deprived of authority. but please don't get me wrong the other nine principles I fully adhere and support, hence a 3 stars

A good breakdown of down to earth values
For anyone wanting to understand and implement these values, many traditional and obvious this book addresses them. Some may be ‘upset’ with some of the values mentioned, so what lol move on and ignore them.
For anyone looking to build a good footing on their future ambitions, this is a worth while book. NOTE - If there are any of these values that upset or trigger you, great. Probably means there are some things to work through.

The negative reviews sold me on this one
I wasn't interested in this book until I read the insane negative reviews. It was good but failed to encompass all of what it means to be a man.
It reads like a boomer's version of being a man while failing to adapt to the modern world. They also use respect as a synonym for courtesy. Old fashion uses like that end up hurting its ability to be evergreen.
It is more like a reading of a time capsule of a particular ideal man than an overview of something timeless. It also comes off as missing a core principle as most conservativism does.

Went into it open minded but
Some good thoughts and insights but mostly complaining about young people and feminism. Especially from Larry. I’m all for being the best man you can be, but it’s not this worldview.
