À propos de cet audio
Why can’t our political leaders work together as threats loom and problems mount? Why do people so readily assume the worst about the motives of their fellow citizens?
In The Righteous Mind, social psychologist Jonathan Haidt explores the origins of our divisions and points the way forward to mutual understanding. His starting point is moral intuition - the nearly instantaneous perceptions we all have about other people and the things they do. These intuitions feel like self-evident truths, making us righteously certain that those who see things differently are wrong.
Haidt shows us how these intuitions differ across cultures, including the cultures of the political left and right. He blends his own research findings with those of anthropologists, historians, and other psychologists to draw a map of the moral domain, and he explains why conservatives can navigate that map more skillfully than can liberals. He then examines the origins of morality, overturning the view that evolution made us fundamentally selfish creatures.
But rather than arguing that we are innately altruistic, he makes a more subtle claim - that we are fundamentally groupish. It is our groupishness, he explains, that leads to our greatest joys, our religious divisions, and our political affiliations. In a stunning final chapter on ideology and civility, Haidt shows what each side is right about, and why we need the insights of liberals, conservatives, and libertarians to flourish as a nation.

It was to be the war to end all wars, and it began at 11:15 on the morning of June 28, 1914, in an outpost of the Austro-Hungarian Empire called Sarajevo. It would officially end nearly five years later. Unofficially, however, it has never ended: Many of the horrors we live with today are rooted in the First World War. The Great War left millions of civilians and soldiers maimed or dead. It also saw the creation of new technologies of destruction: tanks, planes, and submarines; machine guns and field artillery; poison gas and chemical warfare.

Histoire
When Money Dies is the classic history of what happens when a nations currency depreciates beyond recovery. In 1923, with its currency effectively worthless (the exchange rate in December of that year was one dollar to 4,200,000,000,000 marks), the German republic was all but reduced to a barter economy. Expensive cigars, artworks, and jewels were routinely exchanged for staples such as bread; a cinema ticket could be bought for a lump of coal; and a bottle of paraffin for a silk shirt....

Virtually all human societies were once organized tribally, yet over time most developed new political institutions which included a central state that could keep the peace and uniform laws that applied to all citizens. Some went on to create governments that were accountable to their constituents. We take these institutions for granted, but they are absent or are unable to perform in many of today’s developing countries—with often disastrous consequences for the rest of the world.

Guyanese intellectual Walter Rodney emerged as one of the leading thinkers and activists of the anticolonial revolution. In 1980, shortly after founding of the Working People's Alliance in Guyana, the 38-year-old Rodney would be assassinated. In his magnum opus, Rodney incisively argues that grasping "the great divergence" between the West and the rest can only be explained as the exploitation of the latter by the former. This meticulously researched analysis of the repercussions of European colonialism in Africa remains an indispensable study for grasping global inequality today.

Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

interesting perspective on the other side
I think I can actually understand both sides a bit better now. I might need to relisten to it, just to make sure I understand completely. but that's just my ADD. it's a good read for everyone. I like that it didn't take sides, just looked at them.

turning point in moral revelations!
Dr. Haidt is perhaps the best educator on the subject of morality in psychology I have ever heard. This book is nothing short of mind charmingly brilliant in opening ones eyes to the views and morals of others.

One of the best books I've ever read
This book completely changed how I look at politics and people's opinions about politics. It gave me terminology and a framework I can use to have discussions with people who have different opinions than me, and it provides valuable insight into why I believe what I believe and how I might look at things in a new way. There is so much to dig into in this book I will definitely listen to it again.

Interesting look at different ideas/models
Jon does a good job of covering a lot of ground and summarizing some quite interesting topics. He poses clever questions to evoke different emotions and to try to get you to see through your own biases. I really liked this book, but I find some of his underlying assumptions about modern capitalism to be oversimplified. Part of this is that the book was written while Obama was still president, which makes for a much different outlook on the financial and radical political landscape. Although a lot has changed politically since the book was written (and I would say overwhelmingly for the worse) what Jon has to say does ring true at its core, just not necessarily in all of its examples.

If more people read/ listened to this book the understanding of division and how it’s manipulated would be fair less prevalent and powerful. These “super organisms” (massive company’s) wish to divide us to conquer countries easier.

This book is informative.
Haidt's a talented writer, narrarator and social scientist.
If you want to understand his moral foundations theory, then I highly recommend it in any format.
Some might find that it's not for them, which is fair enough as it may call your worldview into question in the first chapter. That being the case it's a mind opening theory and everyone deserves to hear it.
