À propos de cet audio
Despite the dismal Broadway season, Gunplay continues to draw crowds. A gangland spectacle, it's packed to the gills with action, explosions, and gunfire. In fact, Gunplay is so loud that no one notices the killing of Monte Field. In a sold-out theater, Field is found dead partway through the second act, surrounded by empty seats. The police hold the crowd and call for the one man who can untangle this daring murder: Inspector Richard Queen. With the help of his son Ellery, a bibliophile and novelist whose imagination can solve any crime, the Inspector attacks this seemingly impenetrable mystery. Anyone in the theater could have killed the unscrupulous lawyer, and several had the motive. Only Ellery Queen, in his debut novel, can decipher the clue of the dead man's missing top hat.

Racism ruins the book
HUGE SPOILER ALERT!!!!
The murder turns out to have been committed in order to keep hidden the fact of a man’s “drop of negro blood” in his ancestry. The man is engaged to marry an heiress who belongs to an American “Blue Blood” family. The Deputy D.A.s and Inspector Queen refer to the man as “poor devil”, since he looks white but contains “the negro taint” in his blood. !!!!!!!! Not a SINGLE character in the book points out that it’s disgustingly horrible and EXTREMELY wrong for someone to believe that a person is “tainted” if they have any black humans in their ancestry!!!!! AWESOME reading for anyone who HAS any black ancestors; the book states as obvious, understandable, and NOT based on WRONG, INHUMAN beliefs, that said reader’s identity is so horrific someone in 1923 would commit murder to avoid being outed as sharing the reader’s identity. Racist doesn’t seem a strong enough word to describe The Roman Hat Mystery.

On the edge of my seat!
Narrator was adept at character changes, timing was beautiful to add drama. A pleasure to listen to.

Pretty good mystery
I wasn’t familiar with this author, so this was my introduction. It was a pretty good mystery, lots of random oddities to fit together, and surprises. I’d listen to another one.

Racist and sexist and not at all entertaining
This should be taken out if circulation. In fact a number of your ‘free’ books should be culled. It may be ‘historical’ but absolutely not worth listening to in this day and age.
