Raised like sisters, Mariamne and Salome are indulged with riches, position, and learning - a rare thing for females in Jerusalem. It is her prophesying that drives the two girls to flee to Egypt, where they study philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy in the Great Library of Alexandria.
After seven years they return to a Judaea where many now believe John the Baptizer is the messiah. Salome too begins to believe, but Mariamne, now called Magdalene, is drawn to his cousin, Yeshu’a, a man touched by the divine in the same way she was during her days of illness. Together they speak of sharing their direct experience of God; but Yeshu’a unexpectedly gains a reputation as a healer, and as the ill and the troubled flock to him, he and Magdalene are forced to make a terrible decision.
This radical retelling of the greatest story ever told brings Mary Magdalene to life - not as a prostitute or demon-possessed - but as an educated woman who was truly the “apostle to the apostles.”

sadly misplaced story
in rearibg books on Mary Magdalene one seeks to know her truth deeper. to know the true story of her and yeshua. yet this story seems to defile the sacredness and truth of who they both were. While the story itself was an overly dramatic tale of a woman disguised as a man so that she may study philosophy, and kept me interested as for what it was, a story, iteft me feeling saddened for all that it leaves out..the truth. While we may not kno the details, we at least know that He did arise on the 3rd day. ans yet this most important detail is eliminated. because the write cannot fathom this truth. the writer cannot fathom that Mary did indeed study in Alexandria, however as Mary. And she studied the mystery schools of Isis to become a high priestess. When I read a book on Mary I seek to know her story and history deeper. I do not seek fiction. It would be recommended to such authors who misplace sacred history to at least say the book is a fictional tale with bits of known history and scripture intermingled with its dramatic accounting.
