Gripping
I wasn't sure when this book started, but quickly got involved. Yes, it requires a certain suspension off belief, but it's worth it.

Kept me interested and I loved the main characters
I am looking forward to the next book in this new series! I loved the main characters and thought the premise of the book was interesting, Imagine hearing conversations form the past!

well developed characters
there was some good complexity to the characters that contributed to the overall story. I was very pleasantly surprised at how it pulled me in

Diagnosis: brilliant
This novel explores a common theme in espionage fiction: Brilliant but autistic person comes to the attention of shadowy agencies.
The idea that such agencies would actually invest in such individuals on the off chance they will invent something important, is the most plausible thing about "The Speed of Sound."
Much of the story follows the "Idiot Plot" popularized by critic Roger Ebert, in which the plot is driven by people acting like idiots. In this case, the secret agents are the idiots.
Crucial to the story is that almost everyone underestimates how clever Eddie Parks actually is.
I can't speak to the portrayal of the protagonist, not least because everyone is different.
