Description
Can the human population survive if there are no accepted standards for what is right? Can we endure the concept of absolute values without feeling as though our liberty has been violated? Does a life with absolute values provide greater value, meaning, direction, and satisfaction than one without them? Whose ideals will they represent? If values are not derived from God, they are generated from fads and preferences (today, single parenthood by choice is exalted, but removing an owl's nest to make room for construction is a terrible thing).
The 10 Commandments represent the first direct communication between an individual and God. They are the blueprint of God's expectations of us, and his design for a meaningful, just, loving, and holy life. They are intended to elevate our lives beyond a mere animalistic existence to the transcendent peaks humanity is capable of experiencing. Each commandment proclaims a principle, and each principle serves as a moral focal point for concerns concerning God, family, sex, work, charity, property, speech, and thought.
The 10 Commandments is a spirited discussion of the Bible principles developed from it. It will enlighten, inspire, and educate an entirely new audience on the significance of each commandment in our modern life.
The 10 Commandments themselves are:
1. I am the Lord, your God, Who has taken you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
2. You shall not recognize the gods of others in my presence.
3. You shall not take the name of the lord, your God, in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day and sanctify it.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your fellow.
10. You shall not covet.
