À propos de cet audio
A poignant and evocative novel about the bonds of family and the gifts offered by the land
When a troubled father and his estranged teenage daughter head out onto the land in search of the family trapline, they find their way back to themselves, and to each other
Deep in the night, Matthew paces the house, unable to rest. Though his sixteen-year-old daughter, Holly, lies sleeping on the other side of the bedroom door, she is light years away from him. How can he bridge the gap between them when he can’t shake the emptiness he feels inside? Holly knows her father is drifting further from her; what she doesn’t understand is why. Could it be her fault that he seems intent on throwing everything away, including their relationship?
Following a devastating tragedy, Matthew and Holly head out onto the land in search of a long-lost cabin on the family trapline, miles from the Cree community they once called home. But each of them is searching for something more than a place. Matthew hopes to reconnect with the father he has just lost; Holly goes with him because she knows the father she is afraid of losing won’t be able to walk away.
When things go wrong during the journey, they find they have only each other to turn to for support. What happens to father and daughter on the land will test them, and eventually heal them, in ways they never thought possible.

Loved it!
Such an interesting story told in a unique way. Narration was quite good, if a little over dramatic at times.

Want more crows!
although, I truly enjoyed the story. in particular, because it explored a relationship between a teenage girl and her father and contemporary indigenous life, I would have liked the crows to play a larger part. Perhaps there will be a sequel !

Raw, Emotional, Real
This story was an emotional punch; with characters who felt real, who dealt with real life emotions and problems, who had real relationships with the people around them.
Beautiful storytelling, magical imagery and a heartwarming tale of a father daughter relationship that was raw and relatable. Set in the wilderness of Manitoba, the Canadian setting hit close to home.
Nature heads, and this story will have you believing it.

Not For Me
The main reader's voice was hard to handle. it felt like they missed a number of the emotional notes of the story and read a lot of the lines in a corny way. Mr. Robertson read with a lot of feeling.
I listened to this book while also reading Monkey Beach by Eden Robinson so it's probably not fair. She's an otherworldly genius. Everyone would pale in comparison.
This book didn't reach me and felt a wee bit obvious as well as clunky. That's probably because I'm dead inside. My students who are the same age as the daughter in this book really, really liked it so what do I know?
