Starts out well but turns into drek
The Traveler started out well. A lot of books like this start out by just skipping past any introduction and getting straight to a harem. This book didn't do that. By chapter 5, it seemed like the book was going to be discussing a number of interesting ideas - the gods, how society was shaped by polygamy, war and genocide, building a farm, how rune enchanting could mimic technology, and some burgeoning relationships. But then it got ridiculous fast. The main character comes across the women he was courting in an orgy and dumps them, gets kidnapped and repeatedly raped, then murders his captors in his sleep and isn't traumatized one bit by any of it, then meets four women who all move in and have sex with him. Thereafter, the book focused more on the sex than the plot. It got ridiculous how many women described their panties as being 'soaked' simply by meeting 'a man who could take care of himself'. Yes, I get it's wish fulfillment, but it's way too far. This isn't just 'men are rare and in demand by women', it's 'women can only think about sex, and only an average man from our world can satisfy them' - along with a liberal sprinkling of dehumanizing 'males' and 'females' thrown around constantly. I found myself cringing at the dialogue repeatedly. On the plus side, though, none of the cringe came from the voice actors - a male-female duet who used different tones and accents for the many characters we meet. I would definitely listen to them again, but I think I'll be giving this author a pass in the future - sorry.
