À propos de cet audio
"He said if he hadn't heard from you by high noon today, he was going to strap on his six-guns and ride back into town. So I think you should call him, Charlie. Call him before you come home."
Charlie Hills, former desk sergeant at Kings Lake Central, is in trouble. He hasn't told Smith, his old friend and sparring partner, but someone has, and now the two former policemen are about to embark on a difficult and potentially dangerous search for the truth. For one of them, it could be life-changing.

More of D. C. (David) Smith!
I was thrilled when a member of the British Mysteries group let slip that Peter Grainger had produced another work featuring Smith, surely one of the most beloved retired detectives in fiction. I believe it sets up a series that might overlap or run in tandem with the King’s Lake stories, which feature Smith’s former junior partner, Chris Waters.
This is a deceptively simple little story that, nonetheless, packs a punch. Any fan of the series knows how staunchly ethical Smith is when it comes to the law..and the truth.
Gildart Jackson narrates flawlessly once again, adding subtle touches of irony and humour. Can’t wait for the next book. I hope Grainger intends to keep writing about Smith for years to come.

More Enjoyable Listening
As a fan of Peter Grainger audio books this one was as enjoyable as all the others. It seems to open up new possibilities for the ex detective and I hope there will be more adventures for D C Smith to come.

Tough one for DC
I enjoy this series, don’t mind the cautious, thinking narration. Ex DCI Smith is just too good for the work lol

Brilliant writing
So credible. Subtle character development. DC is one of my favourite fictional detectives. Enjoyed the take on Amsterdam and on Air BNB.
And Gildart Jackson delivered big time once again.

Author again ignores reality re crime and re drug use
I’d forgotten that, in his various law-enforcement themed series of novels, this author tends to share with the reader as fact erroneous conclusions made by a number of people in law enforcement regarding crime. (Once again, Peter Grainger makes it obvious that he makes a habit of not bothering to do the easy action of consulting the true experts on crime, criminologists, aka crime scientists.) In this particular book, the main two erroneous conclusions presented as fact are that for youth marijuana is commonly a gateway to “hard drugs”; and that what causes addiction to opiates is exposure to drugs. Almost a century of research proves that the gateway theory is wrong. OVER a century of research proves that what causes addiction to drugs is self-medication of emotional pain, most commonly resultant from trauma experienced in childhood. (Most persons in our societies self-medicate. It’s just that the majority of them self-medicate in more socially-acceptable ways, such as by compulsively working more hours than necessary, shopping compulsively for more than necessities, drinking two glasses [or more] of wine every evening, etc.)
Other than Peter Grainger’s harmful presentation of myth as fact, the story of this novel The Truth is a very good one :-)
As usual, Gildart Jackson’s narration is excellent :-)

A superbly narrated, top-notch police procedural
The Truth, Peter Grainger, A DC Smith Investigation.
Once again I must state that my reviews of Mr. Grainger’s work are becoming repetitive. There are, after all, only so many words that one can use to describe top-notch writing, intriguing and believable plots, fascinating characters, and on-going character development. Mr. Grainer’s work is outstanding in all these respects.
I am delighted that The Truth is a DC Smith investigation, who is one of my all-time favourite characters. (This is not to say, however, that I do not enjoy just as much Mr. Grainger’s Kings Lake Investigations Series.) DC brings his sharp mind, his incredible ability to see beneath the obvious, and his wonderful dry sense of humour to his first case as a private detective. I for one hope it is not his last. He finds work as a private detective rather different than his work as a detective. While he is at first hesitant, he cannot but help an old friend with a nasty problem and takes on this first case with his usual ability to clearly and calmly find the truth behind the lies.
Mr. Grainger has the ability to bring his characters to life in vivid detail and to put his readers into the beauty of the countryside as well as the sometimes brutality of inner-city life.
If you enjoy cop procedurals and murder mysteries in general, this is not a series to be missed. Mr. Grainger always delivers a first-class and captivating read. I have never once been disappointed and have no hesitation in recommending this novel, or any in this or the Kings Lake series. Each book is both a continuing story and a stand-alone mystery. If you haven’t read the series from Book 1, I definitely suggest you should.
Let me add last but by no means least, Gildart Jackson, as always, does an incredible job of narrating this book.
