The dark sun setting bring typical fantasy story in a new apocalyptic world where almost all the water is gone, magic kills natural plant life and life is a struggle for the common man.

You'll follow various characters banding together to defeat greater evil, save their city and the people in it. While the story may be generic, the strange setting, creatures and characters' motive are what makes this journey great. I loved it when I read it when I was a teenager and love Ray Porter performance.

I cannot reccomend this book enough to fantasy fans or D&D enthusiasts who seeks ideas or inspiration for their own game.

Dark Sun! It's an unexpectedly cool and unique setting, and this book kicks off a solid and strong series. Without going into spoilers you can feel that this world requires a much more difficult struggle for survival than other Dungeons & Dragons settings, and magic has a much more tangible cost. The characters are all cool, easy to like, interesting, and the writer manages to take them beyond fantasy cliches. The story is fast paced and immersive with an excellent band of underdogs thing happening. Things conclude in a satisfying way that wraps up the arc of this book's story while smoothly flowing into the next one. There is a lot to like and all the elements are done well. The narration enjoyably adds to the feel of it all, and it was hard to put down. If you like straightforward action based fantasy it's definitely worth checking out. It definitely captures the imagination in a great way.
