The Watchers is fantasy storytelling at its best. I love Sylvan, an elf wizard who has worrisome connections to the antagonist. She provides a cool, almost distant perspective on events, her analytical mind balanced with curiosity, persistence and flashes of temper. She’s an outstanding fighter who is kept from being too perfect by her training having been cut short. As in book 1, every member of the team provides essential skills and services. Edge of your seat action sequences, splashes of humour and moments of pathos make The Breach a must-read, but it’s the appealing characters and a beautifully paced narrative that keep me coming back to revisit the series. Aaron Smith has a great voice and is a pleasure to listen to. I’ve got book 3, The Chaos, and can’t wait to dive into it!
