À propos de cet audio
It was 11:00 pm when I checked my email for the last time and turned off my phone for what I hoped would be forever.
No running water, no car, no electricity or any of the things it powers: the internet, phone, washing machine, radio, or light bulb. Just a wooden cabin, on a smallholding, by the edge of a stand of spruce.
The Way Home is a modern-day Walden - an honest and lyrical account of a remarkable life lived in nature without modern technology. Mark Boyle, author of The Moneyless Man, explores the hard-won joys of building a home with his bare hands, learning to make fire, collecting water from the stream, foraging, and fishing.
What he finds is an elemental life, one governed by the rhythms of the sun and seasons, where life and death dance in a primal landscape of blood, wood, muck, water, and fire - much the same life we have lived for most of our time on earth. Revisiting it brings a deep insight into what it means to be human at a time when the boundaries between man and machine are blurring.

A tale of life, love & figuring things out.
Very enjoyable listen. It was thoroughly interesting to hear a bit about this author's life and mindset. I felt peacefully happy and encouraged by the end of it.

Kept me captivated
I loved this book. Gentle and engaging. It did my heart hood and is inspiring me as I continue to care for my own 5 acres in Canada.

The man who failed to escape Civilization
Great narration.
This is just the story of a individuals perspective so it is difficult to give it a harsh rating. My issue with this book stems from the authors general negatively towards the rest of humanity. The only news he receives from the outside world seems to be negative so its not entirely his fault. Our author primarily rejects all technological development but also alludes to more nessisary inventions with dismay. He even dedicated a whole section to talking about the evil inherit in a pencil due to its manufacturing process. The only things he seems to approve of are the pint in his glass, fire at his feet and a roof over his head. I believe he would feel most comfortable in the 1600s. This book is definitely a good listen for free but I don't feel any more positive or informed than before I started reading.

A Tamed Kaczynski
I’ve followed Boyle’s incredibly brief glimpses throughout the internet via interviews found on YouTube throughout the years; but there is a dichotomy to write something with the intention to have it reproduced and published while just wanting to live off the grid in a self sufficient ideal existence while attempting to not contribute to globalist mechanism of modernity.
I followed his train of thought and share as most will that the ever evolving global mechanism of production and consumption are simply not sustainable but to deprive oneself completely I feel misses the mark in some aspects, no need to spoil when you can just read or listen to his views which don’t deviate from his handful of interview throughout the years.
If concepts like these are new to you, I highly recommend giving this one a go, it gets a little overly romantic with the “the old and more difficult way is always better” but in some regards Mr.Boyle nails us with his views and predictions on comfort and privilege.

Thought Provoking
This was a phenomenal story, thought provoking theme, great narration, and truly my favorite audible to date. Especially amidst the current global state of affairs, i couldn't help but continuously compare the actions I take in a given day, and possibly take for granted, as well as the global state of illusion we all seem to be sharing about how things are vs how they could be if we only made our lives a little more complicated... a little less simple. Give it a chance.
