A good beginning

A decent beginning to a new series. It was a little slower than I might have liked but still moved along at decent pace. I also would have liked to see more of the magic, or at least be told what all the elements are capable of. Still, what I did see shows potential for great creativity. I'm keen to see what the author does with it!
In conclusion, show me more of the magic, keep our main character's confidence growing, and please stop taking away his teachers.
