À propos de cet audio

The newest novel from #1 New York Times best-selling author and "queen of royal fiction" (USA Today) Philippa Gregory tells the passionate story of Elizabeth of York, daughter of the White Queen, who gets caught in the middle of a battle for the crown of England.

The White Princess opens as the news of the battle of Bosworth is brought to Princess Elizabeth of York, who will learn not only which rival royal house has triumphed, Tudor or York, but also which suitor she must marry: Richard III her lover, or Henry Tudor her enemy.

A princess from birth, Elizabeth fell in love with Richard III, though her mother made an arranged betrothal for her with the pretender to the throne: Henry Tudor. When Henry defeats Richard against all odds, Elizabeth has to marry the man who murdered her lover in battle, and create a new royal family with him and his ambitious mother: Margaret Beaufort, The Red Queen. But, while the new monarchy can win, it cannot, it seems, hold power in an England which remembers the House of York with love.

The new king’s greatest fear is that somewhere, outside England, a prince from the House of York is waiting to invade and re-claim the throne for the house of York. Fearing that none of his new allies can be trusted, Henry turns to his wife to advise him, all the time knowing that her loyalties must be divided. When the young man who would be king finally leads his army and invades England, it is for Elizabeth to decide whether she recognizes him as her brother and a claimant to the throne, or denies him in favor of the husband she is coming to love....

Love the details

I love the way Phillips Gregory gets us into the hearts and minds of the characters... beloved or despised... it brings a richness to the stories that I haven’t seen elsewhere in this type of novels.

Another Great Story

This was another great story written by Philippa.
However I didn't enjoy it as much because Henry Tudor was constantly filled with suspicion of York, this was exhausting. Happy times overshadowed by Lady Margaret.
Princess Elizabeth and her ladies were always never at ease.
I don't think the Tudor court was everr at rest.

Lovely

The reading is as wonderful as the story itself. Bianca Amato is a wonderful story teller. She definitely adds to the story. As with everything she does Gregory weaves a glorious tale. I definitely recommend this book.

Historical Friction

This series so far has been pretty fantastic. Moving through the War of the Roses and the Cousins War is fascinating and Gregory certainly does her research. She is great at exploring theories and giving human characterization to historical fact.

My only grievance about this book is that Gregory seems to repeatedly dwell on Queen Elizabeth's problems as if we, the audience, need more time for these moments to sync in. The repetition and convincing tends to grate on the listener's ears instead of provide intrigue.

Bianca Amato is wonderful as always. My overall verdict is that even after being five books in to a fifteen book series, I find myself seeking the sixth.

The least interesting Queen

Gregory usually writes about strong, independent and fierce women. The white Princess is none of those things. While I still enjoyed this book as part of the series, as a stand alone novel it has characters that make it seem long, boring and uneventful.

Wonderfully read and written but the story isn't..

I loved the style of writing but I found the whole thing has to fit just so to make the Beaufort faction responsible for the Princes disappearance and so many other things. And the portrayals of the Tudors being so bumbling. It just doesn't fit nicely if you focus on the details. Which makes the authors note problematic even if I am bias towards the York movement.

It dragged out the (inevitable) end forever

I usually love Philippa Gregory’s books. But this one just didn’t do it for me. It seemed like it just dragged the last part out for a long, long time.
