À propos de cet audio
This poetic, graceful love story, rooted in Black folk traditions and steeped in mythic realism, celebrates boldly and brilliantly African-American culture and heritage. And in a powerful, mesmerizing narrative, it pays quiet tribute to a Black woman who, though constricted by the times, still demanded to be heard.
Originally published in 1937 and long out of print, the book was reissued in 1975 and nearly three decades later Their Eyes Were Watching God is considered a seminal novel in American fiction.

Written during the 1940s and early 1950s, when Baldwin was only in his twenties, the essays collected in Notes of a Native Son capture a view of Black life and Black thought at the dawn of the civil rights movement and as the movement slowly gained strength through the words of one of the most captivating essayists and foremost intellectuals of that era.

Right from the start, Bigger Thomas had been headed for jail. It could have been for assault or petty larceny; by chance, it was for murder and rape. Native Son tells the story of this young black man caught in a downward spiral after he kills a young white woman in a brief moment of panic. Set in Chicago in the 1930s, Richard Wright's powerful novel is an unsparing reflection on the poverty and feelings of hopelessness experienced by people in inner cities across the country and of what it means to be black in America.

Breath-taking! Stunning, jaw-dropping eloquence
The word pictures will leave you breathless! You will stop in your tracks at the beauty spun before your eyes - a flurry of words and light! The narrator was brilliant!! Trigger warning - this is written in the time of Jim Crow and the language suggests just that. But it's not a story about racial trauma, it's a story about ordinary folks experiencing extraordinary love.

Brilliant
Ruby Dee’s narration of this moving, exquisite book is amazing. I started reading the book to myself but felt I wasn’t doing the vernacular justice so I decided to switch to the audio book. I am so glad I did. Ms Dee brought all the characters to life. They will life on in my mind through her brilliant performance.
As to the book itself it is beautifully written. The descriptions of Janie’s thoughts and self reflection are astute, clear and gorgeously described. I cannot say enough for this wonderful piece of literature

An Audible treasure
The book is brilliant-- poetic, psychologically astute and a good story. It isn't easy to read, because the dialect can pull the reader out of the moment. But listening to Ruby Dee's amazing narration makes it come alive. I highly recommend this audible book, it was enjoyable from start to finish. #Audible1

What a whirlwind.
I hate that the tale sounded like a real life experience. So many emotions, I loved and hated many moments but mostly enjoyed Janie’s story.
