À propos de cet audio
Steve Dangle’s incredible odyssey, from self-starting Leafs lover to sports-media star.
How do you turn ranting about hockey into a career? Steve “Dangle” Glynn is a YouTuber, podcaster, and sports personality from Toronto who managed to turn a 16-second online rant about the Maple Leafs into a career in sports media. From video blogging in his parents’ house at 19 to yelling on televisions across Canada at 28, Dangle has been involved with some of the most important sports companies in the country.
In between tales of Steve’s adventures, both online and off, This Team Is Ruining My Life is also a kind of how-to (or how-not-to) guide: in an ever-evolving media landscape, sometimes, you have to get creative to find the job you want. This is Steve Dangle and his accidentally-on-purpose journey through sports media so far.

Steve “Dangle” Glynn was already a popular talking head on Sportsnet the night the Leafs lost to their own back-up goalie (and Zamboni driver), but his fandom skyrocketed after his rant following the hilarious mishap gained one million views on YouTube. Dangle is well known as a long-suffering Leafs fan, but he is more than just that. He shares his rants and opinions about all teams across the NHL, directing his laser focus onto hockey’s greatest arguments, from the best players of all time, to the worst trades, to the most embarrassing Leafs losses.

Brian Burke is one of the biggest hockey personalities - no, personalities full-stop - in the hockey media landscape. His brashness makes him a magnet for attention, and he does nothing to shy away from it. Most famous for advocating "pugnacity, truculence, testosterone, and belligerence" during his tenure at the helm of the Maple Leafs, Burke has lived and breathed hockey his whole life.

Scotty Bowman is recognized as the best coach in hockey history, and one of the greatest coaches in all of sports. He won more games and more Stanley Cups than anyone else. Despite all the changes in hockey, he coached at the very top for more than four decades, his first Cup win and his last an astonishing thirty-nine years apart. Yet perhaps most uniquely, different from anyone else who has ever lived or ever will again, he has continuously experienced the best of hockey since he was fourteen years old.

SEPTEMBER 2, 1972, MONTREAL FORUM, GAME ONE: The best against the best for the first time. Canada, the country that had created the game; the Soviet Union, having taken it up only twenty-six years earlier. On the line: more than the players, more than the fans, more than Canadians and Russians knew. So began an entirely improbable, near-month-long series of games that became more and more riveting, until, for the eighth, and final, and deciding game—on a weekday, during work and school hours all across the country—the nation stopped.

In this sports memoir, Wayne Gretzky weaves memories of his legendary career with an inside look at professional hockey and the heroes and stories that inspired him. From minor-hockey phenomenon to Hall of Fame sensation, Wayne Gretzky rewrote the record books, his accomplishments becoming the stuff of legend. Dubbed “The Great One”, he is considered by many to be the greatest hockey player who ever lived. No one has seen more of the game than he has - but he has never discussed in depth just what it was he saw.

No one who knows the game is unfamiliar with the story of the NHL’s first Muslim Stanley Cup winner, Nazem Kadri, nor does anyone doubt his warmth and openness in front of a microphone, or his eagerness to challenge the next generation of Muslim athletes. He is a league All-Star, a highlight-reel player, and someone who has been called upon to be the face of his community from the moment he put on skates.

Histoire
NHL tough guys all tell the same story. They all grew up dreaming of skating in the big league as stars. Then one day, a coach tells them the only way to make it is to drop the gloves. And every guy says the same thing: I'll do whatever it takes to play in the NHL. Not Stu Grimson, though. When he was offered a contract to patrol the ice for the Calgary Flames, he said no thanks, and went to university instead. And that's the way Grimson has approached his career and his life: on his own terms.

Ce que les critiques en disent
“Folks always say to me, ‘When Coach’s Corner is on, no one in our house is allowed to talk.’ I reply, ‘Neither am I.’ Now I find myself hushing my own household when Steve is on. Steve says he’s taken a page from us, but I know it’s novel. Enjoy.” (Ron MacLean, Coach’s Corner)
“A wonderful look at the rickety ladder to success in sports media and how one can invent their own way of climbing it. Revel in Steve’s journey from irritated Leafs fan yelling into a webcam to irritated Leafs fan yelling into much more expensive cameras.” (Greg Wyshynski, senior NHL writer, ESPN)
“A hilarious, inspiring account of how a kid who could barely skate managed to navigate a turbulent period in the Canadian media industry to become one of the most unique voices in our sport.” (Chris Johnston, senior hockey writer, Sportsnet)

Love the story even though it's not quite what I expected. more about becoming a part of the hockey media world than hockey related stories from a fan. also Steve narrating is unexpectedly good.

Expected and elaborate in a good way
If you've known dangle from the LFR videos you will probably not find too many untold mysteries or unexpected turns in this biography. What you will find is a tale of a young man's journey into the formative years of his career. Dangles voice is poignant, humorous and fun which keeps the surprisingly lengthy decade long journey enjoyable. I'm left feeling closer to him and with a new found appreciation of what Steve's gone through to be the successful young man he is today. Keep on keeping on Steve! Go leafs go!

Thanks Steve!
Steve Dangle introduced me to hockey this September and, thanks to his podcast, I've been able to listen to him (and his screaming) every day since.
For those who have a similar adoration for Steve as I do, "This Team is Ruining my Life" will make you further appreciate this YouTuber turned high-profile hockey media member. For those who will be introduced to Steve through this book, welcome to the world of a truly great guy who knows his hockey good.

Absolutely loved this !!!
This book means more than you know!! This audio book provided entertainment for my mum and I. Time we’ve spent together listening to your book will be memories that I will cherish forever.
You see, Steve, my mum is battling terminal cancer and we love listening to your comments after every Leafs games and this book was a nice “filler” after the 2018 season ended and we are all hoping she will be able to hear more in 2019
We love you Steve
