For 2,000 years, the Order of the Varaná has nurtured and protected the Anarwyn, a sentient magic that has developed a symbiotic relationship with humans. The Order has kept the land free of the ageless evil called the Bragamahr that once controlled the destiny of humankind. Over the long years, the secrets of the magic have been lost, and the Varaná have dwindled until only one remains. Then, from the shadows come the Mahrowaiths of the Bragamahr, ancient creatures of evil who attempt to hunt the remaining heirs of Anarwyn to extinction.

The Anarwyn seeks out a young man, named Cam, who can stand between the rise of the Bragamahr and the final destruction of the Anarwyn. When the terror and death of the Mahrowaiths find Cam first, he must choose between saving his friends by assuming the terrible burden of the magic that killed his mother or denying his heritage and remaining free. The Anarwyn might not wait for him to decide.

This series is perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Shadow and Bone, Wheel of Time, and Mistborn.

What a world to jump into, to journey alongside each of these characters, learning about their struggles, victory, loses and the lore of their own origins. Mixed with such depth, to be able to belive that you are on the mountain side battling for freedom with the rest of the party. I can not wait to see where we travel to next.

Absolutely fantastic

J.W. Elliot submits a passable Fantasy tale about a young man ('Cam of Stony Vale') destined to be King 16 years after being whisked away from a collapsing Kingdom at War - but also at the center of a fight between two sentient Magicks: Anarwyn + Bragamahr. I quite like Elliot's ambiguity in the story (neither side is entirely "Good" nor "Evil") - but central protagonists Cam and best friend/half-brother 'Spider' are incredibly whiny and the story becomes strikingly ephemeral/philosophical by the half-point of the book. Elliot's imaginative "Anwyn" world is well-conceived but overly-cerebral and frankly kinda uninteresting.

I certainly can't blame any misgivings on reader Joseph Tweedale, however. His unimpeachble diction/timbre/cadence complements great emotive voice-acting and a near-psychic understanding of the author's intended tone. If you are given the choice between this recorded version and a text - Paper or eBook - iteration, take this one every time.

Altogether, I rate this first installment in the 'Heirs of Anarwyn' series 6 stars out of 10. If you can get 'Torn' as a free "included with your subscription" selection, it's worth a listen.. but save your Credit for something more eventful should they ask for one.
