À propos de cet audio
In the spirit of Oliver Sacks Awakenings and the TV series House, Dr. Eric Manheimer's Twelve Patients is a memoir from the medical director of Bellevue Hospital that uses the plights of 12 very different patients - from dignitaries at the nearby UN, to supermax prisoners from Riker's Island, to illegal immigrants, and Wall Street tycoons - to illustrate larger societal issues.
Manheimer is not only the medical director of the country's oldest public hospital, but he is also a patient. As the audiobook unfolds, he is diagnosed with cancer and is forced to wrestle with the end of his own life - even as he struggles to save the lives of others.

Deep, rich, beautiful.
I hope he is writing another book. This book is fabulous. Deep, rich and a beautiful recounting of a physician’s wonderful life at Bellevue. I loved the audible experience. Thank you, Eric.

Enjoyed this
I chose this book because I started watching New Amsterdam (what a GREAT TV show!) and realized it was based on Dr. Manheimer's experiences at Bellevue.
Great stories... you get to follow him in his career as the Medical Director there, of a hospital that amounts to a small city, and while he goes through throat cancer as well. He's a really good writer (he comments along the lines that the trauma backboards were lined up outside emerg like surfboards in California...) and his speaking voice is very soothing.
Although it was a long read (11 hours, people!) I listened to it quite comfortably at 1.2 speed while out on my walks during this pandemic time, and really enjoyed it.
