À propos de cet audio

UNDER THE EAGLE is the gripping first novel in Simon Scarrow's bestselling EAGLES OF THE EMPIRE series. A must read for fans of Bernard Cornwell.

It is AD 42, and Quintus Licinius Cato has just arrived in Germany as a new recruit to the Second Legion, the toughest in the Roman army. If adjusting to the rigours of military life isn't difficult enough for the bookish young man, he also has to contend with the disgust of his colleagues when, because of his imperial connections, he is appointed a rank above them. As second-in-command to Macro, the fearless, battle-scarred centurion who leads them, Cato has more to prove than most in the adventures that lie ahead.

Then the men discover that the army's next campaign will take them to a land of unparalleled barbarity - Britain. After the long march west, Cato and Macro undertake a special mission that will thrust them headlong into a conspiracy that threatens to topple the Emperor himself...©2000 Simon Scarrow

Great Book with a great performance

I am used to the historical fiction of Conn Iggulden and Bernard Cornwell. Although this is similar in that it features accurate conflicts and military life, it is much more light hearted and almost silly at times. This makes it fun, but not nearly as exciting or engaging as the Emporer Rome series by Conn Iggulden or my favourite series the Mongol Conqueror books. Very well narrated and an overall entertaining yet forgettable book.

A fun, if underwhelming narrative

Must read for those you love Conn Iggulden's works!

The narrator brings this story to life! great voice acting and easy to follow.
well written story too. Glad there's a lot of books in this series as I really enjoyed this.

The story was really good. The narrator was incredible. multiple voice for multiple characters as unique as the characters themselves. It got to the point where i knew exactly who was talking without having to actively take a second to think about it.

Great Story. Amazing Narrator!

This is a pleasing Boy's Own kind of historical adventure. Lacks a little detail and the plot a bit too obvious, but enjoyable nonetheless. The reading unfortunately doesn't do it full justice. the narrator does a superb job of characters' voices -- distinct, dramatic, and memorable. However the routine description and general narration is oddly matter of fact and dull, with a curious flatness not unlike a reading to children. The poor quality here is hard to not notice.

Pleasing story, lopsided reading
