À propos de cet audio

Alex

Some people are born lucky.

Then there’s me, destined to be loved by the man who knows my darkest secret.

My gift has followed me my entire life—the ability to see the threads of fate. I can see the red thread tying together two people destined to love one another.

But my gift has another side to it. A darker side.

I can also see a simple black thread tied to the fingers of those who aren’t aware of it, connecting them to the person destined to kill them. And when I look down at my own finger, I can see the red thread stretched over to Bishop King. The man who is my soul mate.

But then why is the black thread also wrapped around our fingers?

Bishop is sweet and caring, and I can’t stop my heart from loving him. I just need to thwart fate before it separates us forever.

Bishop

I swore to never let myself be drawn back into Alex’s world, but the man is funny and charming and the moment we’re together I fall back into the familiarity we shared as teenagers.

I know this time is different; he’s hoping that I can help him walk through his dreams to figure out how an innocent girl is going to die. While his dreams tell of the future, mine allow us to find the truth. But what happens when we save a life and change fate–will it affect our own future? I can’t keep myself from falling for Alex, but what if helping him leaves one of us dead?

Unraveling the Threads of Fate is a stand-alone romance with action, mystery, humor, and a happy ending.

Great stand-alone from Alice Winters!

I love the books I've read/heard by Alice Winters and this one was no exception! I particularly liked the characters in this story, though the humour was a little toned down from some of her other books (still several lol moments though!). Alice is a master at writing the funny banter between characters.

The narration was also great, Michael Ferraiuolo is perfect for delivering the hilarious dialogue between characters. He's quickly becoming a favourite audiobook narrator of mine!

For sure worth the Audible Credit! I think I need another dose of Alice Winters now :)

It was okay

Not the best Alice Winters. It was a little boring to me. I did listen all the way to the end, hoping for something funny or exciting.

Good book!

Alex and Bishop come from two completely different worlds, yet they met as teenagers and formed an unlikely friendship until one fateful night tore them apart. They meet again 13 years later, and Alex realizes that not only is Bishop his fated soulmate, but he is also the one who will end up killing him. Alex would like to stay away from Bishop, but he needs his help to understand what his ability is showing him to be able to save his sister's friend's life, and many others as Alex keeps seeing black thread appearing all around him.

There were a few flashbacks, but the mix of chapters happening now, and chapters being flashbacks, and the way the flashbacks slowly allowed us to finally understand what happened between Bishop and Alex all those years ago reminded me a little bit of Vicious by VE Schwab and how every flashback showed us a little more of the rift between Victor and Eli and the way they got there.

One thing that I kept wondering though, was why Alex and Bishop didn’t try to just follow a black thread until it lead them to the killer when Alex started seeing the threads appearing on his students’ hands. I understand that the killer behind the attack Alex kept dreaming about remained a mystery, because unless Alex met with one of the victims while they had the black thread around their finger, there was nothing he could do, but it would not have been too hard to follow the threads he could see at school in the hope of discovering the killer’s identity… Just saying…

The world-building is kept quite simple as it happens in our present time. The only difference is that some people have abilities and because of that, everyone is being tested as a kid or teenager, to figure out who has an ability, what the ability is, and asses the level of the ability (meaning: deciding who needs to be monitored, who can be useful to the government, and who is potentially a threat).

The humor was more subdued in this book when compared to other Alice Winters’ series, but I am not complaining. While I love some of her crazier and OTT characters with all my heart, it was refreshing to have a character that has humor and wits, yet is not as silly and intense as Finn or Leland. Alex has this more mature vibe that comes with the fact that he had to raise a child, and I loved it. Alex is street-smart and snarky at times, but he is also determined to do everything to take care of his sister and assure her a bring future. He has a dark past and did some questionable things to survive, but I would not even classify him as a morally grey character. He is a good, good man with a golden heart and he is trying his best to help people around him and keep his family safe, and away from his darker past.

Bishop is the typical sheltered, rich but lonely boy in the flashbacks, and it’s easy to see why he latched on to Alex, just as it is easy to see why Alex relied on him so much as a teenager. I adored how even as a grown-up, Bishop remained sheltered and had no idea how to operate basic appliances in his house, or how to do things “the mundane way”, but he was aware of his shortcomings and was making fun of it. He also made the effort to learn and to become more approachable and less of a sheltered daddy’s boy over the years, making him very likable and making his relationship with Alex believable despite the huge difference in their backgrounds, upbringings, and financial situations.

The romance could be described as a friend-to-lover I guess since Alex and Bishop were friends as teenagers. They lost contact for many years, but it didn’t take long for them to pick up where they left things when they met again as adults, except this time they had the maturity and confidence to act on their feelings and see where it lead them. They are sweet and cute together, and the fact that they were friends before provided them with a (mostly) strong base for their relationship, allowing the author to develop it in only one book, without making it feel like an insta-love or forced romance.

I also absolutely adored Alex and Calie’s strong bond. Alex was so strong to raise a child as his own when he was only a teenager, and I admire him for that. I also love how those two love each other so fiercely. They would do anything for each other, and it shows. Alex loves Calie as if she were his child, and Calie knows how lucky she is to have had someone like Alex to care for her and raise her.
