Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too. This is difficult enough, but Cassie’s tag along ex-boyfriend and her friend’s bratty sister have a knack for making everything, even the apocalypse, more unpleasant. When the two attract a threat as deadly as the undead to their safe haven, Cassie’s forced to see how far she’ll go to protect those she loves. And it’s a lot farther than she’d anticipated. This, coupled with Adrian’s distant voice on Safe Zone Radio and, of course, the living dead, threaten to put Cassie right back into the funk she just dragged herself out of. Survival’s great and all, especially when you have leather armor, good friends and home-brewed beer, but there’s something Cassie must do besides survive: tell Adrian she still loves him. And to do that, Cassie has to find faith that she’s stronger than she thinks, she’s still a crack shot and true love never dies.

Excellent post apocalyptic thriller
The human race faces its biggest challenge as a virus combines with a parasite that turns people into zombie like creatures. This is the story of a group of friends that try to survive despite the ever reducing odds.
This post apocalyptic thriller features great characters, amazing action, triumphs and disasters. It puts forward all that is good and bad about humanity. The desperation, hopelessness and fear can either turn people into selfish monsters or giving, kind, empathic people and everything in between. What I like about this book the most is how it delves into emotions that come with atrocities and doing things to survive you never thought you would. It also highlights how resilient some people are and how determined they can be and the changes they go through with each new experience. I thought this book was creative, with realistic concepts and amazing characters.
The performance was totally amazing as well.

Good background sounds to work to

First rate Zombie series, my favourite
This is the 2nd time I’ve listened to this series. Sarah Lyons Fleming is an excellent story teller, love her many characters, especially Cassie.
I discovered this audio book because it was narrated by the talented, Julia Whelan.
I look forward to listening to more stories by Sarah Lyons Fleming in the future.

Great twist on the usual end of world story!
Loved the female lead and perspective that brought a fresh twist to the focus of how to face the end of the world and survive.

I can’t believe I read a ZOMBIE BOOK!!!! I fell for the characters pretty hard! Looking forward to the second book!

Well developed plot!
The story keeps you interested from beginning to end!! The character development is realistic, you feel like you're on the journey with them, feeling all the emotions they feel. Great book!!

Loved it so much I listened to the whole series
good listen over a long trip... enjoyed the way the characters adapted and the realness of the book despite the topic! The experiences they had felt authentic given the situation.. the wins few but great and the losses believable.

Enjoyable story. Great performance
Perhaps seeking a more inclusive audience, this zombie apocalypse story spends a bit more time on developing relationships and exploring aspects of survival & homesteading rather than relentless action and gore. So in that respect, one might consider it more of a “PG rating” zombie story, which was fine by me.
It explores the well-worn formula of: girl meets boy, girl breaks boy’s heart, girl wonders if boy could somehow forgive her (assuming he’s not a walking corpse). The ending is perhaps a foregone conclusion but there are a few unexpected curves and tense moments along the way.
Another top notch performance by Julia Whelan.

Amazing story that happens to have zombies
I bought this audio book because I enjoy listening to Julia Whelan and I was happily surprised that the story is as great as the narrator! The characters draw you in and it has enough real world post apocalypse to make you feel like the story could happen to you.
