Although none of the country's leaders see it coming, the shattering consequences unfold with the same plausible harmony by which quiet aboriginal protests decades ago became the eerie premonitions of today's stand-offs and "days of action."

Interesting and entertaining
I’ve read this one and found it enjoyable. Listening to it was a fun refresher. It was compelling and fun to see this “what if” play out, it’s takes a few liberties for the sake of storytelling but it was pretty entertaining all the same and the variety of perspectives kept it from being too narrow.

meh
I really wanted to like this, but I couldn't get into it and found my mind wandering and would have to skip back quite a few times. I didn't even make it to chapter 3. Maybe I'll give it a read instead.

A Stunning Depiction of Canadian Politics!
There is nothing like finding a book that both stirs the excitement within the reader and proves highly impactful from an educational standpoint. Douglas L. Bland does both in this stunning story that depicts a potential uprising by Canada’s indigenous population against the Government of Canada. When a group of well-organised indigenous groups begin a calculated strike against key parts of Canada, the national government is ill-prepared and reacts violently. The world is watching as this uprising forces Canada to teeter on the brink and brings significant change for all involved. Bland delivers a stunning story that is years in the making and sees a modern Louis Riel-type strike against the Eurocentric Canadian government.
After decades of being downtrodden, many groups of indigenous people across Canada are tired of being poorly educated, and forgotten. They find a leader who can not only talk, but has a plan for action. It is time to take back the land from the ‘evil white settlers’ who have left things go for much too long. The Government of Canada is not prepared and could soon find themselves scrambling to quell the fight.
While this group might not be strong enough or have sufficient concentration to take the entire country for themselves, they need not worry about it. Rather, it is targeted attacks and capturing key natural resources that will force Canadian government officials to listen and stand down. The Canadian prime minister is in a panic, as there was little preparation for the uprising and no one is sure how to stop it while saving face on the world scene. The insurrection creates panic and paralyses the country, so much so that America is waiting for the other shoe to drop, not yet sure if they want to assist or wait for things to settle. With significant resources required of their northern neighbour, nothing is guaranteed when it comes to Washington's next steps.
From the outskirts of Winnipeg and across Quebec, indigenous attacks begin showing a strong sense of progress, leaving Canada’s defence forces to wonder how they will be able to plug the many holes that keep appearing. With a PM seeing his control over the country lessening and history turning the tables on Ottawa-indigenous relations, nothing is guaranteed. There is ongoing wonder about how far the indigenous insurrection will go before Canada is left as a smoking pile of rubble. Douglas L. Bland provides a plausible story and keeps the reader hooked in this stunning political and social thriller.
While I have never had a passion for Canada-indigenous relations, stories about the struggles are always educational. Douglas L. Bland pulls on his knowledge of the indigenous situation and past in the Canadian military to craft this impactful story. The narrative moves forward with ease, never letting any stone go unturned as things push out of the realm of history and into the present reality. Bland provides not only key situations, but well-researched settings to deliver as realistic a story as possible. Key characters help shape the story in ways the reader could not imagine, pushing the story from an indigenous collective to the backrooms of Parliament Hill, where nothing is guaranteed. Plot points help shape the story and provide surprises for all to enjoy, injecting realism and potential happenings to the forefront of this thriller. While one can hope nothing of this nature happens anytime soon, Douglas L. Bland leaves the door open and the fear real for the attentive reader.
Kudos, Mr. Bland, for one of the greatest Canadian political thrillers I have read, bar none!
